Life is like this thread. We all have our little streaks of meaninglessness mixed in with our serious efforts to have legitimate fun. . . well. . . .some fun, anyway.
Probably, it could be argued, most "fun" is illegitimate somehow.
I could probably do a little cameo segment just right here on the subject of intellectual strivings to capture "truth", or even "beauty". . . . but here I digress, as "money" encompasses and defines every other human aspiration or dream, and has status as the measure of everything. . . . .
It's like that despairing day long ago when I realized that the Mormon Church was hiring Madison Avenue ad folks to re-shape the public image of what I had thought was the Gospel of Jesus Christ. . . . ..
It's not just the Gospel that depends on money for public acceptance, it's also Truth as well as Beauty.
I mean, look at Van Gogh for example. Nobody gave a damn until he was dead and gone, and couldn't splash color on canvas anymore. And ever since then, the only reason anyone ever hears of him is because some wealthy folks have bid up the price of canvas and chromate paint.
It never did mean anything, or convey any understanding of anything. . . . it always was just canvas and chromate pigments dissolved in oils. . . .and it doesn't mean anything now, except as a demonstration of how human beings attribute values to things in mockish imitation of the wealthy morons who preside over us.
We see the same thing on the "trending" directory on our email accounts, on TV glitzeratti, and the nightly news. . . . .
