Well, I don't peruse the GD as much as I'd like nowadays.

hey be careful with your language. You're in the polite zone here, we don't use the term "GD", even if it has other meanings like "General Discsussion". You can never tell what will set the filter/censor off any more.

I fully expect every rule, every law, every high notion in our present New World Order to be twisted, inverted, and turned against not just us ordinary folks but against the very devoted ideologues who pushed to make the world better by it somehow.

And then, after all that, it will become a matter of "Arrogance of Power" on the part of jack-booted thugs who just love to stomp on you.

okay then

Every now and then, I can really really relate to some character in a movie.

That would definitely go a long way to them being less confused by her spiritual disposition.

I've known her for quite a while, and I've seen some stuff that would really make "One Love" wonder. . . . . Mormons often wonder about other "Christians" who do stuff that doesn't fit the local brand of notions in the set of WWJD class, and I hear some folks wondering in the same general way about Mormons. In particular, if you know anyone very well, you will find some things to wonder about.

Lol @ your use of your second placement of quotations.

I got my start at wit by reading Ambrose Bierce, as a preparation for reality just ahead of my LDS mission.

"The Devil's Dictionary" should be required study for all aspiring missionaries, LDS or any other variety.

Cultural arrogance has long hampered sincere missionary labors.

I would welcome you, with wide open arms, into the fray of discussion regarding artificially limiting rep.

All rep 'power' was long ago limited to 100 by a being powerful within this realm. Abusing this power, imo, this being set forth a communistic approach to zero-diversity. Of classes? No.. Of benefits? No..

But don't allow me to say anything persuasive. What are your thoughts to artificially limiting rep (while continuing to allow its existence) so everyone can catch up?

Overall, it will be the same effect as setting a cap on personal assets, say at $100,000 total, including real estate holdings, retirement plans, automobiles, and postage stamps. . . . .

Probably, you were running away from the pack at such an alarming rate it was making the rep system look hopeless for newbies, and they were getting a lot of whining about how unfair it looked.

Continuing on the topic. . . .

It was a "graduated scale" sort of thing before, I think. Newbies could get rep power at a cheaper rate in terms of actual rep given them, but it got a little harder once you crossed some artificial lines drawn in the sands of JazzFanz.

I think "rep power" should be more like some fundamental human rights, where it's "God-given" and equal for every member. That would reduce the cliqishness of the local culture some, and the "class warfare" a little, too. We should all have rep power of 100. . . . well. . . . 1 would work just as well. . . ., in that model. But then there would still be the status of "rep" in terms of accumulated status within the local tribe. In that system, while you might be an ordinary citizen with one vote, you could still be "Chief" and maybe sport a feathered headdress depicting your special acts of bravery, in holding forth about the virtues of the Kentucky Wildcats in Utah, and in regards to Christians in Utah as well. . . .

Well, I can understand how you might take it this way, not being a Utah native or a Mormon, and all. . . . .

Mormons only began eulogizing private entrepreneurship about a hundred years ago. Before that time, while there were special cases, a large part of the culture was inculcated with basically social notions of equity in material welfare. While the whole system of Mormon theology was a serendipitous rehash of things Jesus actually taught, and nobody understood, in regard to the strait gate being something only a few would find, and the ultimate result of following Jesus would be to become like he and his father in terms of comprehension and understanding and power. . . . clearly not something attainable with little or no effort. . . . and with little or no inequity in material terms. . . . . Mormons were from the start intrigued by what I call Sidney Rigdon doctrines of socialism. . . .

And so, if you can catch my drift, some Mormons still harbor ideals cast in socialist terms, such as those you mentioned. . . .

So, to make an actually comprehensible reply to this, I'm in with both feet.

I personally think it's really un-American to restrict Rep Power to 100. I would normally make a song and dance about something so unjust, but I can't make a thread questioning THAT, cos I myself am not an American.

Does that make any sense?

I sorta understand your problem. But here, let me explain yourself to you in a way that you can understand. . . . .

"American" is a word with more than one meaning. Yes, in the archaic definition it pertained to a place arguably discovered by one ignorant tribesman from Europe who more or less made a name for himself by naming the place after himself, putting "America" on the map, so to speak, for those backwater Europeans who were the last to discover it.

"American" is more importantly a word that describes a certain class of ideals held dear by almost all humans, excepting only those who are dead to the things of the human spirit already. . . .

With regard to the more important meaning, you are indeed an American.

Red-blooded humans the world over want you to sing that song and dance that dance.

Don't be such a waah, waah.
Your solution is just like the NBA one. Quit and form your own board. Set up whatever rules you like as the grand poobah.

Just kidding. I had no problem with you having 2000 rep power or whatever it was. Of course when one gets negged by one of the higher-powered posters on the board it does sting. Maybe it was this concern: too much power was corrupting a few people (and I'm not talking about you).

Then deal with those abusing power. I never did, not once.

And that's why I put "(and I'm not talking about you)" in my post. I was just guessing as to the reason rep power was capped. Like i said, I never had any problem with you having the rep power you did. I forget what it was - likely close to 200. You should have double/triple the rest of us just based on your post total.
