Lots of old Jazz games on VHS....

When I was in high school I was a little obsessed with the Jazz. This is in the era way before league pass (Frankly, before I was anywhere near the internet), and as a Jazz fan living in San Diego I would record any nationally televised Jazz game that I could get my hands on.

Here is the scoop. I still have all of the games I recorded in a big ol' box of VHS tapes. Pretty much from 1994 through the 2000s - and including most all of the playoff games from that era (Well, most of them. I was known for recording over the games they lost. I'm pretty sure I don't have that 54 point NBA finals blowout anywhere)

What I'd love to do is get them all transferred to DVD just so I can get rid of all of the VHS tapes. Is there anyone on this forum that might be interested in taking that project on? I just don't have the time to do it even though I've got a big stack of dual layered DVDs and a VCR/DVD recorder combo box waiting for me...to find time.

Anyone out there interested in taking it on? (I know, probably a long shot.)

I would be interested, this summer i have been editing old jazz footage and uploading it on youtube. I do have a VHS-DVD converter so I can convert them to dvd no probem.

Nice. Toss me a message if you want to discuss. I fear shipping this bohemeth might cost a significant amount but I'd be open to doing it so long as I ended up with my own set of copies. :)

...I would love a couple of those playofff games when the Jazz beat the "hip hop" Warriors the year the Warriors upset the Dallas Mav's!

prodigy, if you take this project on, I fully expect you to put a ton of good footage on youtube. You're becoming the resident "this guy has everything related to the Jazz on his youtube account" guy.. don't let me down, buddy!

just an idea maybe those of us interested in a copy of the DVDs could help with the cost of shipping the VHS's to Prodigy

Wow, first - prodigy is legend. Second, yeah, I'm totally down. Frankly - it's a job that requires a significant amount of focus and time. I started capturing a few while trying to be alert enough to stop or chapter mark the DVD from recording the ads (Although even some of those are pretty damn amusing - it's amazing how long ago 1995 looks now). My plan was to try and put two games on each dual layer DVD so the quality would still be pretty solid. (Super compressed DVDs = lame.)

So what are next steps? Perhaps tonight when I get home from work I can look to do an actual VHS count - but some significant games are in the stack.

Johnny Stocks 10,000th assist, Felton Spencor ripping his achilles, I think even the Karl Malone "I'm pissed" interview is in the stack somewhere (After that Ronny Seikaly trade fell through), Jordan's last shot, etc. etc.

One thing I should reveal is this, and it's sad to admit - the big game 6 win over Houston is in here too...BUT, when they fell behind I got all upset and stopped recording it cuz I thought they were going to lose, and then FORGOT to turn it back on for the big run - I do have all of the post game press conferences though, and I think I even recorded the SportsCenter highlights to try and make up for it.

Ha, amazing how much of this stuff I remember.

But yeah, I'll do a "game count" tonight and try to estimate the weight. Prodigy, is this something you are willing to take on?

If prodigy doesn't do this I will. I have everything set up and have tons of experience transferring VHS to DVD. I just completed over 200 hours of home movies...HAHAHA!!

I'd love to do this at some point as well. At the parents house I have a box of older stuff. Mostly 88-91. When I lived in Utah, and recorded a lot of games.
I've got some classic games like the Christmas Day win against the Lakers....I believe it was 88. Then about 10 games from Boozer's first or second year with us.
Stuff like that.

My only worry is quality. What program do you use Prodigy? Your stuff looks great.
I have Pinnacle Studio.

Ok. Count complete.

I've got 42 VHS tapes all together. On average there are two games per video tape, but there are some with three and maybe one or two with just one.

Also stumbled upon the fact I've got a few all star games in the mix - 1995, 2003s (Jordan's last), and a few other slam dunk contests etc.

So. Yeah. Lots of basketball.

Sound like you are more experienced in this, you probably should do it, i honestly have only done a couple of these and I can't stop the recording(for the commercials) without finalizing the disc, so I'd have to use a program to edit the commercials out and burn the disc again. But JayQ just curious do you have a idea of what specific games you have?

prodigy what's your youtube account?
