What's new

Lyles is the pick at 12

I got the sense that Dennis Lindsey didn't really care to be there either. Could be the 2 hours of sleep and the early-morning flight after working a 70-hour week maybe.

Hanlan looked refreshed but that's because he would have been watching the draft at home.

Admittedly, I'm guilty of thin slicing when judging the players from the draft. But it's not my job to dig deep and don't have the resources and access.

After reading more about Trey and looking further into who he is, I'm excited about the pick. He could actually be pretty good.

It's funny because Colin Cowherd said on his show today that star players have something they are elite at and he said Dwyane Wade's is his balance. Two totally different players and this doesn't mean anything in the grand scheme of things, but a pretty cool tidbit. He had the highest score out of 101 players.

Wade's got multiple things he's elite at. He is Flash for God's sake.

The league really is trendy. Now all of a sudden the Pacers want Paul George to play PF. The Wizards might give Otto Porter time at PF. Lamarcus Aldridge is considered a center if he goes to the Lakers. Everyone wants to small ball.

That's a flat out mistake imo.

I'm going on record to say this small ball stuff is overrated. It's just working because Steph Curry and Klay Thompson are unreal. No one else has those players.

Rudy and Favors are going to destroy these clowns trying run small forwards at the center and power forward position. Let them do it. We are gonna win that battle.

I agree with this, if LeBron had Kyrie or Love they would have beat the small ball. Funny how it works one time and all of a sudden everyone loves it.

I love that while a ton of teams are equipping themselves to play small ball, the Jazz are equipping themselves to stop small ball.

Spot on. Our tall ball gonna stomp their small ball.

I mean you want the flexibility to go small SOMETIMES, but yeah we will not be playing much of it given our roster. Only having 1 of Favors, Gobert, Lyles, and Booker on the floor at any given point is not going to be the norm.

I'll be pretty happy if lyles turns into a solid role player. I'll take that any day with the #12 pick. I'm excited for summer league now!

I think it's more about having versatility than it is about playing small... For example, the reason the Warriors were so good was that they could play any way they wanted - they could go small or they could go big. Bogut was integral part of them beating the Grizzlies huge line up, but then didn't work against the more mobile Cleveland core and they went small. It's not all small and it's not all big. It's about giving the coach the versatility to play any style that would help him win a game, because if one way doesn't work he can always adjust and go the the other way and at least try to change the flow of either a game or playoff series.

That's one of the reasons this pick keeps growing on me. It gives us A LOT of versatility with our front court, especially if Lyles starts knocking down the jumpshots.

Great find, Cy.

From the dude who wrote the article:

This pick just seems to get better and better.

Had u guys listened to me, you could've enjoyed the draft as I did.

Versatility is nice and it helps, but that's not it either.

It's two word really.

Steph Curry.

The Golden State Warriors are Champs because Steph Curry. It's pretty simple really. It's a stars league. If it isn't Steph, it's Lebron, or Duncan, or Kobe. Those teams win because they have the alpha dog.

The Warriors could have all the versatility in the world and run all small forwards at every position, or whatever they want to to try. Without Steph Curry they don't win the championship. Plain and simple.

Steph Curry is the best shooter ever. He should have been the finals MVP. The only reason why that small ball lineup worked and Iguodala and Draymond could get off was because Steph Curry was on the floor and the Cavs were doing everything in their power to stop him from shooting. They made the decision to have Iguodala beat them, and he did. That's all they could do really.

There is only one Steph Curry. No one else is going to run small ball to the championship, I guarantee it. Because there is only one Steph Curry.

Lucky for us, there is only one Rudy Gobert. We have our own ultimate weapon. I'm all in on it, and think we can ride it pretty far. Maybe even to a championship.

Alright Thee Jazz Fan, you win this one.

It's obvious you want some credit for wanting him and saying he was your guy. I'll extend you some credit for now. Good pick.

But if this mother ****ed busts, we are coming to repo all your rep.

Nah mean?
