Lyles is the pick at 12

I get the pick. He's a mismatch. Quick enough to get by most 4's, big enough to post up most 3's. He has good skills. He has excellent form on his shot, and he will be a good shooter. I think he'll be an alright rebounder. Stats are down bc of who he played with. Like I said, I like his brain, I like his skills, I just worry about his mentality. Seems soft to me. I'd take him over Turner tho.
 
Is our 2nd 2nd pick (54th) the one we traded for last year? That would make that trade look bad no?
 
Some people gotta realize this is the 12th pick in the draft. He needs to get a lot tougher, especially if he's gonna be a factor in the post. Get him some reps. His shot looks pretty good to me. A gamble on the athleticism, but not as much of a gamble on it as Frank - who, of course, is more advanced offensively at this point. And older.

Says the guy who just watched his first Lyles footage after the pick. Just because your opinion is uninformed, don't assume everyone else's is. I hope we are all wrong about this pick, but my gut feeling is worse than any I can remember. I generally support the FO and trust their judgement, but I ****ing hate the idea of drafting a player who can't ****ing shoot with the idea we can turn him into a stretch 4. The last time I was disappointed in a pick was when we took Burks over Leonard, but even then I was still ok with the pick. I never believed in Trey Burke, but I supported the effort to move up for a better shot at a decent player.

At the end of the day, I'm sure we all hope to be wrong about Lyles, assuming he isn't traded, which I still think is a decent possibility. Just the same, for now I'm going to stick with my opinion, which is this is one of only 2 players in our range that I really wanted to avoid.

I was actually excited about the Hood pick. He dropped and they got a bargain. There was no value in Lyles at #12. He shot 14 Freakin' % from the college three. Jazz said they needed shooting. Trey CAN'T shoot.

If this isn't a trade, it was an absolutely moronic pick.

And I hate to break it to you but you and almost everyone here is uninformed regarding draft picks.

Good analysis. Was hoping for Turner but it will be interesting to see how Lyles develops.

There were a handful of other players I would have been happy with. So yeah, I stand by what I said. Utah could have gotten a pretty good player at #12. I just don't think that guy is Lyles.

And I don't see how Lyles fits. He's not a stretch-4. Guy can't even hit a college 3. I'd rather see Favors or Trevor Booker shooting from deep than this guy (or even Trey Burke). Maybe he's good around the rim, but that's NOT what DL and QS have been preaching that we need. We need shooters to space the floor. Lyles is NOT a shooter.
 
I'm happy with Lyles.
He's young, he's long, he's smart, he's skilled.
Does not have to play a lot right away.

Shooting less then one 3 per game. So he hasn't proven anything but the Jazz seemed to think he has good form and potential to become a good shooter and like his play making ability that allowed him to play the SF.

I'm not saying he's going to be good or not I'm just not hating the pick and like I said in one of these threads he was who I thought the Jazz would draft (but that was before Booker fell).

Have you seen his form? His FT numbers? He projects well as a shooter.

Fwiw, he's a lot better than Vonleh, whom I believe you loved. Oh and fwiw, Booker shot 26% from 3 as a sr. Crazy how people improve over time, isn't it? I bet this 19 year old with good form and a good FT stroke won't improve though.
