I do appreciate this point, but think the other pertinent part of the story you told is that everyone else on the bench went wild. The Jazz need some energy and big dunks can energize a team (see: Memphis Grizzlies). If not Mitchell I hope the Jazz to after another athlete this summer that can bring some of that energy.Mitchell has not been good this year???? What are you talking about? He has been sensational, especially since returning from the concussion.
A few years ago I saw a replay of a Donovan Mitchell dunk in traffic and a zoom of the bench’s reaction. Everyone on the bench was going crazy except for Johnnie Bryant. He was shooting lazer beams at Donovan with and angry glare and a finger tapping his forward as he mouthed the words “BE SMART”. I think that is why Donovan is dunking less. The people surrounding him probably realize that players like DRose and DWill’s careers were cut short by reckless play and injuries. I only expect dunks when there is a clear path to the basket.
I think an unfortunate side effect of this is that Donovan has had to rewire some habits. Sometimes he wants to go back to his default and he can’t decide if he wants to dunk or do a layup, and the unfortunate result is what happened last night. I think last night he got surprised how open the lane was and realized he could dunk even though he was expecting to do a layup (my assessment could be wrong.)
As ugly as it is, it’s better than blowing and ankle or knee.
GTFOH with that stuff.Jazz win!
(for the people who use the thread for stuff like that)
Pretty sure you are misreading Ron Mexico. I think he’s saying Mitchell hasn’t been as good in the clutch at end of games. He’s shooting 26% or something. So the numbers bare that out. He’s having a good season Ron is just saying that Conley and bogey need to touch the ball a little more down the stretch.Mitchell has not been good this year????
This. Conley and Bogey should take most of the shots at the end of the game.Pretty sure you are misreading Ron Mexico. I think he’s saying Mitchell hasn’t been as good in the clutch at end of games. Let’s face it though, unfortunately this is basically what happens on every team pretty much down the stretch of any nba game and it gets even worse come playoff time.Mitchell at the end of games tries to "shoulder the load" and force things in high-pressure situations with tons of on-ball pressure, which generates the lowest-percentage shots we can get. So hero ball, although sometimes it has a place, is far far less efficient than running your normal offensive sets.
It is only bad if they guy doing it isn't up to the task. The stats would say that our guy isn't up to the task.Let’s face it though, unfortunately this is basically what happens on every team pretty much down the stretch of any nba game and it gets even worse come playoff time.
So in years past he was but all of a sudden in his prime he’s not?It is only bad if they guy doing it isn't up to the task. The stats would say that our guy isn't up to the task.
Which is why he lead us to how many rings so far?So in years past he was but all of a sudden in his prime he’s not?
