Mark Jackson Named Warriors Head Coach

Espn is teasing a Monta Ellis for Andre Igudola trade.....that could make things interesting.

I'll take good offense over good defense any day of the week. -Mark Jackson during every game he broadcasts.

On second thought - I doubt Golden State will notice they no longer have Nellie or Smart coaching them.

What about "Mama, there goes that man?"

Yeah...

He don't look like such a bad coach now.

He definitely seems to have the motivation ability down pat, which is probably the most important part of coaching. I still wonder about his ability though. The Warriors run a very loose system that gives everyone complete freedom to shoot whenever. Can that really get them into the Finals? I hate them and want to see them lose, but I do find this experiment to be exciting. It's kind of like watching the Nash-era Suns again. They look great, but you kind of assume this has to end at some point and will never ultimately win anything.

Lol @ all the haters. I guarantee you everyone here would have talked about how great of a hire this was had he never played for the jazz

So true. What was the story with him again? He used to throw too many alley oops to AK or something ridiculous? I get the impression that the players seem to love playing for him too.

Yeah, how silly for anyone to question a team for hiring a HC who had no coaching experience at any level.

The NBA’s alltime assist leader [John Stockton] may be getting a push out the door by his new backup this season and the No. 2 man on the career assist list, 38-year-old Mark Jackson. Three members of the Jazz organization now understand why Jackson has been traded seven times in his 16-year career: They say that over a period of weeks, he succeeded in turning several teammates against Stockton by repeatedly remarking that those players would be better off if Jackson were the Jazz’s floor leader. Other players rallied around Stockton, who, because of his quiet nature, was vulnerable to the locker room politicking. The rift on the Jazz was mended, though not before Stockton’s pride had been wounded. “There was no question it hurt John, because you could see him withdraw,” says a high-ranking team official. “But he’ll never talk about it, just as he won’t talk about injuries, because then he feels like he’s making excuses for himself.”

Sloan reached a breaking point in mid-January, when he lost his temper over the divisiveness on his team and stormed out of the gym during practice. He was threatening to retire then and there, only to be dissuaded at an emergency meeting called by team owner Larry Miller, president Dennis Haslam, general manager Kevin O’Connor and Sloan’s wife, Bobbye. “That had the real potential of Jerry saying, ‘To heck with it,’ and walking away,” says Miller, who believes that Sloan’s seven-game suspension for shoving referee Courtney Kirkland on Jan. 28 was the result of his built-up frustrations.

This is one the thee least talked about KOC acquisitions but easily one of (if not thee) worst one.

Why anyone thought that having 2 floor generals with egos would work is beyond me. Mark Jackson had been a starter for most of his career. He certainly felt like he was capable. Being the #2 assist leader, of course he felt he could play. Same w/Stockton. You don't place two aging stars from the same position and era on the same team. The only exception might be to compete for a title (like Zo and Shaq. But even then, play them together. And Zo understood that he could only play a few mins anyway).

It was a dumb dumb DUMMMBBBB move to do what KOC did. All for the... 8th seed?

The Jazz should have brought in a few young players to learn from Stockton. Not a vet who competed with him for the starting role.

So, was KOC the problem with playing all these vets the last two years, and not Corbin?

Lets just call it the way it is.

The Jazz did a decent job of rebuilding after the Stockton/Malone era.

The Jazz have done a bad job rebuilding since the Duron Williams era. A lot of it is on coaching (we have no identity, no strategy, just... nothing there. Ty Corbin is a cheerleader not a coach) and very little progression because the vets (Josh Howard, Raja Bell, Foye, 2 Williams, Big Al, Millsap) have played so much over the vets. And management sends out a mixed signal. They want to develop young guys but don't go all out to draft and develop them. Why didn't we find a way to trade up to get Klay Thompson? Why didn't we draft Paul George? Why aren't we looking to move up to get some players in this draft? Why didn't we package up Millsap for young players/draft picks?

Even today, it doesn't look like we're moving anywhere.

We have a few nice pieces but watching these playoffs have showed to me how truly behind we are. Everything from talent, player development, depth, to coaching is lacking. We are 2-3 years behind because our management hasn't committed to anything since Duron was traded. Had they committed to something... Anything... Rather than choosing this "sit on the fence" approach, we'd be a lot farther along.

Agree with a lot of what you wrote. But the Jazz did commit: they committed to Tyrone Corbin and to Big Al Jefferson.

Also, our talent looks way worse than it is because of the coaching. Look what Thibs is doing with a hollowed out squad. His 3rd string backcourt is beating people, including the champs in an away game. That is coaching. Bad coaching just makes your players look like bumblers and bums.

The good news is the national media is starting to call out Thibbs as the reason why Rose isn't playing. Some are calling him racist and overworking his players. So, he might be looking for a job in a year or so.

racist, yet most of his rotation players are the same race as Rose? wow, media are a bunch of turds.

Okay. Now I recall. Thanks, Colton. Now I hate Mark Jackson and GS again. But do you think this was before he found religion? He seems pretty mellow in interviews (I have the benefit of having to hear him from time to time due to living in the Bay Area).

Just last year Jackson was involved in an affair scandal that involved him being extorted by his former lover with nude sexting messages and letters.

Lack of patience. That is why so many teams in the NBA suck today and suck for long periods. The Jazz are doing it the right way and it will pay off down the road.
