this is a convenient excuse which can be used to excuse the jazz's incompetence for years! I've heard greggy and Locke use it. This along with; "Well we are a small market team soooo don't expect much." Is just as lame as, "don't boo or criticize our players and coaches. Now we won't be able to keep our own players or sign anyone else because players won't want to play for fans who care."
It's just another lame excuse for the jazz's incompetence. Golden st, Denver, and Houston have all done a far better job rebuilding and developing their your talent.
And as far as "oh crap! We are going to suck for a few years! We can't do that!" Has actually been the strategy most advocated by fans post-duron era. We don't want to see the vets play for the 8th seed. We want to see real development. Real progression. WITH THE YOUNG GUYS! Whether that means getting the #1 seed or having a top lotto pick, it matters not.
The worst thing the jazz could do was go another years with their c4 playing off the bench and not getting anything via trade from the vets. And the jazz did just that and didn't even make the playoffs. 12-13 will go down as one of the most wasteful years and worst jobs done by management/coaching in the history of the franchise.
