Game Thread May 26, 2021 08:00PM MT: Jazz vs. Grizzlies - Game 2

Added to Calendar: 05-26-21

My God I never want to go to another Kane Fitzgerald game again.

I don't even know what to draw from the game honestly. Kane Fitzgerald games are so far removed from actual basketball to the point where I don't even know if what either team did on offense is sustainable in future games.

Hopefully in Game 3 the refs go back to allowing actual defense.

Probably the most egregious failure to challenge a call all season. Mind-boggling to me how he just, nearly pathologically, refuses to challenge. And when he does he gives off a vibe that he's getting a rectal exam or something. I don't get it.
It was one of the worst foul calls I’ve ever seen... there was so much airspace between their bodies and he took the ball out of the air. For such a genius coach he is really dumb sometimes.

I think they're probably more correct than Jazz fans want to admit. Tonight, Memphis matched Utah's intensity and played pretty strong in the second half of a game Utah absolutely needed but Memphis didn't. That indicates to me we're maybe not the better team.

Sure, I could be wrong and things flip in Memphis but I'm assuming the Jazz will be dogs Saturday and if they lose that game, they'll be dogs again in game four, and right there makes them underdogs for the series.

To be honest, I'm more discouraged after tonight's win than I was Sunday's loss because I really expected the Jazz to come out and dominate and while they did in the second quarter, it didn't really carry over into the second half.

I'm actually leaning toward Utah losing in six, which is insane to me because I wouldn't have thought that even after game one.
I think jazz win in six because Mitchell’s minutes will go up and JC will have at least one game where he goes off.

I will say this... it was consistent... they called it tight on both ends... basically Brooks can’t play if that’s how they are calling it.... he will foul out in 15 minutes playing his normal style.

Morant had 46 and we won. We are good.

We okay but we need to adjust... this is the same **** that got us lit up in the Denver series... can’t let Ja walk into a semi contested floater whenever he wants. I know... math says it’s a ****** shot, but when they know they can get it percentages go way up... have to mix in a few hard contests... Rudy has to come up harder or someone needs to push him out about 5 feet further.

We might win this series, but our deep roster construction flaw is on display. Our perimeter defense was a sieve, with blow-by after blow-by. We make good guards look like gods and average guards look really good in the playoffs

I would bet strongly against us winning any series after this one at this point.

Bogey, Clarkson, or Ingles needs to be flipped for a high level perimeter defender this offseason. Period. There is no argument against this position that I will accept. Maybe even two of those three need to be flipped for two guys that can defend and score a little. The trade value of all three of those guys is as high as it will ever be, and they are all expendable, IMO.
It’s way too early to say. For one, I think the jazz still looked a bit rusty defensively and chemistry wise. They had several games off and this is their first game back with Mitchell in several weeks. However the Grizzlies have shown if you rough the jazz up they are more vulnerable.

We need another skilled big or just a scrappy overall player.

We havent been able to defend penetrating guard play for a while now. That needs to change tbh. We need a lock down defender who can hit the open three. Bruce Bowen in his prime. Danny Green, Shane Battersea, Tony Allen with a respectable shot. Someone! Royce is more balanced, but he isn't that guy.

I’m not confident in us making any big adjustments. I mean, we knew this same thing last year and didn’t adjust. There was a game against Lillard that was nice, but other than that it’s been “hey, put Royce on the guard, he’s our defender, right?”
Royce isn’t the problem scheme wise... the big has to come up higher to take it from a 5 foot floater to a 8 foot floater... tough to do with JV behind you... it’s the same issue we’ve had for multiple seasons... if Rudy steps up too much Jarden throws the lob... if Rudy sags off Jokic he hits threes... if Rudy tries to snuff out Jas drive then JB gets a rim opportunity or offensive rebound. Ja hit his shots tonight but I’d dare his *** to hit long shots again.

This defense is not championship level.

If I take nothing else from this game, I will always remember that the Grizzlies challenged a foul on Brooks after he ninja kicked a jump shooter onto their *** lmao.
High comedy... and still a better use of a challenge than we had.

I think we should try oni. Cant be worse than current defense lol

As far as I’m concerned I think all the pressure is on the griz for game three. There’s no way IMO the griz win both games at home, and IMO if the jazz take game 3, there’s a great chance they take game four as they would have momentum.

Losing game three could mean the series returning to utah with jazz up 3-1

Ja played 43 minutes and scored 47. They are going to run the kid to the ground. He's going to wear down eventually.

For playoffs I go one game at a time.

Feels so good to win one. Losing one feels like death.

I don't lean forward on playoff games. Just take each game as it comes.

I've been Jazz fanzing for a long long time.

I feel like there were more mind boggling calls in those two games combined than in both series we played against Harden's Houston.
