What's new

Memo traded to NJ

Watching a "100% healthy" Memo and realizing that even healthy he's now older...slower...and a worse defender then he was two years ago did not tap-down my excitement in having Memo back. I think I missed the Booz, Williams, Memo days. Change sucks...not because I liked those players more or because I think we won't be successful now, but because it just serves to make me feel older. Same as when we lost Stockton and Malone. I'm blinded when a player blows past Memo for an easy layup, because - well, its Memo and damnit I like Memo. I'm glad Kevin had the balls to do this...I would not have. It's like when my cat turned 16 and started losing weight rapidly and we all knew what needed to be done - but I didnt care, I had great memories of that cat and I when I looked at him I didnt see an old cat past his prime, I saw the cat how he used to be. No matter how much he would've screwed up and cost us points on the defensive end this year, I wouldn't have seen any of it. So I'm glad Kevin made room in the litter box for the new cats.

I'd like to think Memo is in a better place now...raining down threes and driving to the hoop in slow-motion, fading back on one leg over the outstretched hand of Yao.

I don't post much anymore, but for some reason its the first thing I thought of when I heard the news. I'm still a little in shock and I know there are people here who understand.

No matter what we liked or disliked about Memo;hated or loved about him, tonight I'll drink to the Money Man.

Here's to the "I-should-be-an-all-star-this-year" streak of performances after the first round of selections, here's to the clutch shots and the hot wife jokes, here's to open-mouth-gum-chewing and the 'pick-n-pop', to the shutting down Yao and always playing hard (even if it is at half the speed of everyone else).

I dont think I'll be able to watch Sex and the City again.

Oh...and here's to devils and beer!

KOC should be commended for living by the pattern of getting assets in return for players while they're still worth something.

Here's hoping Memo unleashes his "money shot" on the league when he's not playing the Jazz.

I like Memo a lot. He was done! Slow to begin with, older and coming off an injury that was just going to leave him slower. He couldn't defend the paint before, there is no way he is going to start now.

Have a nice life Memo.

I thought memo off the bench could be killer but I can see why they did it. Makes me wonder if koc has something else going on. Might see some teams trying to free up some players pretty fast. PLEASE GET RID OF BELL.

Our shooting did get even worse with this trade though

I agree - he would have found a nice home coming off the bench adding instant offense to the second unit.

I guess when you're in a rebuilding enviornment, paying a guy past his prime 11mil to come of the bench is a bit against their sensibilities. Can't say I blame them.

Great post. Seems like a lot of that going around. Rep'd.

It was Millsap or Memo. Something had to give. Sap said he'd come off the bench, that sealed Memo's fate.

Good luck Memo, thanks for all the great memories.

When has Millsap said he'd come off the bench? Link?

More Paul -
"Obviously", was the answer when Paul Milsap was asked if he still felt he was a starting power forward in this league. How ever, Paul was quick to point out that it was his opinion and there are other opinions out there, and if Coach Corbin's opinion was for him to come off the bench, that is what he'd do.

Memo hs injury issues, gets paid too much and sucks on defense. We now have an extra 2nd round pick (KOC magic) an exception, and will have room for Evans. Works for me.

So NJ thinks Memo is better for them than AK. Seems unlikely they'd bring in AK now, although I don't know NJ's salary situation after getting Memo.
Moving Memo tells me we'll see Kanter getting regular minutes, as he looked good rebounding and holding his position in the paint. Really showed his strength and smarts transfers well to the NBA.
Also, Favors will likely see more PT at C too, which could bring Evans in more frequently at PF. Both these guys looked good in preseason!
With his age and coming off injury, we weren't gonna get much for Memo, but it's better than nothing. Yeah, that trade exception could come in handy down the road if another trade possibilty gets on KoC's radar screen...

Man, when he is in Ankara a few months ago, he had said that he wants to give his best to his team in rest of his career after the lockout and retire in Jazz uniform. I bet he is very sorry right now.

Nonetheless, I think this will be better for him. Also better for Kanter. And for Jazz. And even for Nets. And even for Dwill. And even for AK.

Overall, it is some trade for everyone.

You're correct. A deal for AK is unlikely in NJ being it would probably bring them into luxury tax territory.

this sucks, I'm looking big picture, we have lost coach Sloan, Coach Johnson, D-will, AK, Memo, Let Mathews go, I'd add Boozer but I hated him. Brewer, and the list goes on.......... All in a fairly short time. WTF are they thinking? I want to be positive but dang.
There thinking they just rebuilt their team in record speed and are looking really good going forward.

I'm starting to get the idea that Sloan was the reason this team never made changes. If so him retiring could prove to be very good timing for this franchise.

I have always really liked Memo but the more that this sinks in, the more I think that this was the right decision and an inevitable move for the Jazz going forward. I think that this shows that "those that matter" think that Kanter can hold his own and need minutes to develop into a good player. I keep thinking, this is not our Jerry Sloan Jazz anymore. I am really starting to get excited to see how these guys grow together. Like it or not, it is an exciting time to be a Jazz fan.
