Michael Stockton to play for Utah in Summer League

sry in case I misunderstood you. But have you been there as a religious missionary?

Yes, that's right. Roughly half of the posters in this forum are LDS (Mormon), and most of those served religious missions. Mine happened to be in Germany.

I can't believe that base is still open, and they closed Mannheim, and Heidelberg only has a month or two left.

Michael played in the Summer League and was scrappy. He more than held his own with a high draft pick that was playing there. He played for Tommy Conner at Westminister and Tommy was a good point guard in his day. Playing for Tommy and having John as the father this kid probably has a few tricks up his sleave.

So..... If we sign 'lil Stock to a contract, then his Dad who has always supported him would sign on as a player development coach to give him the best chance of succeeding, thus also helping Burk, Burks, Raul, other guy along with his son, and then when people finally realize that the tax evader sucks, he can take over as a lead assistant!

Oops, sorry, i kinda zoned out there for a bit.

Something I always wanted to know... How would religious folk react to an atheist missionary preaching the word of atheism? I can't imagine they could get upset since it would basically be the same concept.

Also, how long are you guys allowed to go to the same apartment/house? Because I use to live with my girlfriend and she doesn't know how to say no, one day a couple of missionaries came to the door and she agreed to allow them to stop by the next day even though she didn't want them to. They came nearly every day for three weeks or something, sometimes twice a day. I wanted to answer the door and apologize to them for wasting their time but she wouldn't let me because she was embarrassed. But seriously, how long are yall allowed to go to the same place if invited?

Heidelberg rulez BTW!
Michael Stockton is the 2. coming of a Stockton, lemme add!
Give him a contract for this obvious reason!

I wouldn't have a problem with it as long as it's done respectfully. (Same goes for religious missionaries)

I'm not sure what you mean by "allowed". Allowed by the law? By the church? By common sense?

If someone doesn't want visits, then if they tell the missionaries I'm sure the missionaries will stop coming. If they don't tell the missionaries, then the missionaries may well assume that they DO want visits, and will keep trying to reach them for a while. But there's no rule on how long that can/should be.

Very good answers. Are there any rules?

Junior Stock average about 14 points per game and 4 assists on 58% shooting. His free throw shooting was only 72% and that's a concern.

Sure, quite a few. But they are mainly about the missionary's own behavior and not about how the missionary interacts with potential converts.

Here's a link to the manual they give missionaries to use: https://www.lds.org/manual/preach-my-gospel-a-guide-to-missionary-service?lang=eng. The manual doesn't really contain rules, but rather guidelines for how missionaries should teach the gospel.

Beyond that manual, there are some rules from the church about things like when to get up/go to bed, how often they can call/write/email home, how much scripture study to do, etc. And most areas have their own more specialized rules as well. For example, when I was a missionary, we had a rule about how hot it needed to be outside before we could go around without suit coats on.

Like someone else said...Bring in Stock Jr. if pops comes along as a PG mentor/advisor for the Jazz, it'll be a package deal. It's not like Michael Stockton will be a locker room cancer or whine about playing time...it's a low risk move. If anything, he could be the Jazz's version of "Rudy" and inspire the team during practices, with his work ethic, determination, grit, etc. John Stockton was the greatest Jazz player ever and sacrificed the big payday to play for the Jazz...giving his son the 15th spot on the roster is the least we can do. The last man on the bench won't make or break our season.

It's not like Jr. Stock is totally without skills. He averaged 18ppg his senior year of college and about 14 ppg last year in Europe. I realize this is the NBA but still those are decent averages.

Keep kidding yourself :D Dude I can't wait to sit down in the chat with the Stockton Jr. lovers on Sunday. He'll play 5 min, then he'll sit. And nice ignorance. Like Europe is one league xD He played in Germany. Germany is right now behind 1) Spain 2) Russia 3) Turkey 4) Italy the 5th most competitive league in Europe on a similar level with Greece and France. But he played 2nd division. His 14 ppg wouldn't even translate into the first division. He'd be more like a <5 ppg player there or see his FG% sink rapidly and his TO ratio increase. You think a 24 yr old 2nd division player from Germany can make an NBA roster w/o his dad's help? There were so many on this board who were very harsh on 19yo Dennis Schröder's 12 ppg in the 1st German division. I see the summer league roster of Utah and he's the worst player of them. But that's not supposed to be a personal attack on your integrity. Just a harsh criticism on your statement regarding a player named Michael Stockton.

The kid played NAIA ball and probably isn't the best basketball player of John's sons. However he's here and he has a chance to show what he's got if anything. I get your argument about quality of competition and I think it's a valid argument. But let's see what did Scottie Pippen, Elgin Baylor, Dennis Rodman, Jack Sikma, and John Drew have in common. They all played basketball at NAIA schools.
