What's new

Milsap is Gone

i agree, i still hope millsap stays with a reasonable contract

Huh? Stays with his new team, the Hawks?

Just to catch you up Millsap and Al Jefferson are 100% not going to be on the Jazz next year.

Like others have said I really enjoyed watching Millsap the 1st few years he was on the team. But when he became the starter his energy level and commitment to playing hard evaporated. GL Paul in Atlanta.

It's a hard thing to see happen. If nothing else the Jazz are firmly committing to a specific strategy. I suspect we're just manuevering ourselves into 30-win territory though and a steady diet of picks in the 7-11 range.
Jazzfanz posters will finally have the team they've been begging for: The Sacramento Kings.

The salary structure and age of players are now similar. But I don't think anyone is a equating Hayward competitive drive and Tyreke Evans'. Or that Favors is a nutcase like DeMarcus Cousins. And we aren't locked into any long term bad contracts. And we have boatload of draft picks to trade or use. I think we are in a pretty good position.

This is classic and so shortsighted. So, Utah lets a C go who doesn't play defense, and only plays offense for himself. They also let a SIX FOOT SIX power forward walk who can't defend anyone and doesn't want to be here go. They then take one TWO UNPROTECTED FIRST ROUND DRAFT PICKS for NOTHING in the two best draft years in the near future. They turn a superstar who didn't want to be here into two #3 picks and one #9 pick. And you say they are turning themselves into the Minnesota Timberwolves. Hahahahahahahaha.

This is so shortsighted. Like I have said a couple of times the last day or two, a lot of fans would rather compete for the 8th spot than championships. You are one of those fans.

The Jazz are coming up on a situation where they could potentially be asked to spend over 50 million dollars or basically ALL of the cap on four players (Hayward, Favors, Kanter, Burks). Shouldn't they figure out what those players can do so they don't make the same mistakes they made with Ostertag and AK?

Also, what FA that would come to Utah that would be better than Favors, Kanter, or Hayward? So, why would they fill their cap space with player that aren't going to help (Mayo, etc) and they would have to overpay for?

Any fan who doesn't like the moves Lindsay has made isn't looking at the situation with a title in mind. What Lindsay has done over the past two weeks is nothing short of miraculous.

What are you going to complain about if Favors and Kanter develop into 15 and 10 guys, Burke averages 8 assists a game AND the Jazz end up with Jabari? Are you going to celebrate when we finally get back to the finals or are you going to whine that we should have kept Millsap?

This is how you win in the NBA. Chicago has done it. OKC, SA, Dallas, etc. You have to lose to win it all. It is just the way it is.

What Jazz player is Cousins? When did the Jazz spend a top 10 pick on a small SG who can't do anything other than shoot? When did the Jazz draft the same position over and over and over again? When did the Jazz keep a terrible coa...nevermind on that one. The Jazz aren't anywhere near the level on incompetence of Minnesota, Sacrament, GOLDEN STATE, the Clippers of old, Charlotte, etc.

What Lindsay has done is nothing short of genius.

Paul Milsap kept us from being the Kings? All 6' 6" of him? So, is Atlanta now going to contend for the title? Sap is gonna go toe to toe with Lebron and bring him down?

Paul Milsap was a classic Jazz hero: hard workin' underdog who overachieved. Unfortunately, while he overachieved he was still below average at his position and his short stature made him a big defensive liabiltiy. Jazz would go nowhere interesting with him as the starter, and that was all he would accept here. While I liked him, I am very glad that he is gone.

FWIW, the post I was responding to commented on the overall strategy, not just Paul Millsap leaving.

Please explain how this makes us the kings. That's just silly. Did SA become the kings? Chicago? Indiana? Those are three teams that have had similar success/FO/ownership over the last 20 years. When did a bad season or two relegate them to bottom of the NBA status? Also, KOC has done this before and we turned out fine.

So, again, why are we going to suddenly become Sacramento?

Yeah I don't see the parallels between the Jazz and the Kings either tbh

The point is:

1. Giving young guys minutes doesn't guarantee they'll develop into stars. It's entirely possible by the end of this coming season we've soured on most or all of our young guys, don't have a pick that'll turn into a franchise player AND are even less attractive to free agents.

2. Teams that dump all their vets and go young frequently have many years of total suckitude before climbing out of the basement (or being moved to another city...which might not be such a bad thing).

KOC has not done this before. KOC had his franchise players leave, handed the team over to a Hall of Fame coach and a team of mostly scrappy veterans, and had a load of cap space the following year, getting pretty lucky with Boozer and Memo.

That's not to say I don't agree with the strategy in general. However, aside from wanting a championship at some point, I value watching entertaining/competitive basketball. It's not all or nothing for me, and I suspect most fans of teams consistently at the bottom of the standings feel the same way.
