Miye Oni Hot Take

Couple good deflections... need that... solid pressure while navigating around the screens. Why didn’t we play him at all in the Denver series again?

Yep. He made Murray almost break a sweat tearing the team apart to the tune of dual 50-point games. And he almost was out of breath laughing so hard at our excuse for a defense. I remember him just giggling running back on defense. But boy O'neal made him work for those giggles.
My computer has had coffee just spit all over it.

He'll get all the pre season hype. Will get minutes the first 15 games then will fade off to the end of the bench the rest of the year.

He will get minutes this year. Every team gonna have at least 25-30 games missed just on Covid stuff. I think Niang eventually loses all his minutes to a combo of Oni, Shaq, and Morgan.

Kinda funny how the bad defensive possessions are left out of that video lol. He defended well though, especially as the game went on.

Re-watching the possessions from G1(good and bad), I think Oni needs to improve on his technique and be more consistent with it. He takes some bad angles and over pursues a bit. His length and ability to cover ground allows him to recover really well and make up for mistakes. Once he gets more reps I think he'll become a stopper. His physical ability is way ahead of Royce for guarding guards and quicker players.

OK, I need to apologize for my first impressions on this thread. I am starting to buy into this that Oni will become the better option than O'Neale. Oni's D was GREAT tonight against the Clippers and he was hitting 3s.

O'Neale will put up a 3 when absolutely necessary but he is not a willing shooter. I think he hesitates too much. He has a pretty decent shot but he just is not a willing shooter. Oni, Hughes and others are much more ready to take the shot.
