Sorry if there is a thread dedicated to him already. I wanted to have a discussion about him in detail.
I have very mixed feelings on Mack. The thing that I like most about him is what he brings off the ball on both ends. On defense I love what he does weak side and in broken play situations. He bodies up and boxes out big guys better then any pg we've had in a loooong time. He makes small, high bball IQ plays throughout the game that you might not be able to catch on TV. The intangibles on him are by far highest of the 3 pigs, and close to the highest on the team.
I've been shocked that a young and career 3rd string pg could come to a decent team like the Jazz and become a leader overnight. Mack gets after our own guys more so then anyone on the team right now. The way he gets in Rudys grill is really impressive to me. He's able to do it because of the confidence Quin has in him.
I don't think anyone would have guessed that he'd be thrust into the lineup and crunch situations like he has been. Its obvious that Quin is not a big fan of Raul or Trey, and I think to a shocking degree.
I have pretty high hopes for Mack. I think he provides good defensive, and look of offense that we were lacking. I like how he is able to facilitate easy buckets for our bigs. The issue right now is the bigs and him being a little out of sync and him not proving them the ball in ideal spots.
It's to me surprising that our 3 mediocre point guards could be so incredible different. I think Treys lack of defense and lack of chemistry between our stars is what has done him in. If Trey had more chemistry with Favors and Gtime I have no doubt he'd be playing at least ahead of Raul.
Once Alec gets back I think we will see less of all our pgs, including Mack. Ideally I'd like to see Mack get about 24 mins, Raul 12, and 12 mins of the triple wing.
