My 4 Step Solution

So I lost you at trade Millsap for Harrison Barnes? My point is that if it is clear that we are only going to keep one of either Jefferson or Millsap, and in 3 years perhaps have neither holding down our front court.... I am in the camp of trade the guy with the most trade value to maximize return... and that is Millsap! It is time to turn the teams front court minutes over to Favors/Kanter. No one disputes that Favors should be starting over Millsap. If that is the case we will be trading a backup PF for a future starting SF, and freeing up the cap space to pursue the shooting we need going forward. With this trade we become harder to defend and better long term. I liked that we made the playoffs this year, but with GSW, Portland, Nola, and Houston improving it will be harder to make the playoffs next year anyways... I am not interested in squeaking into the 7-8 seed the next couple years. I am confident that we are one or two pieces away from having a team that will compete in 3-5 years...

I basically choose to sell high on the trade value of the guy who has the most, and who is going to be losing his value soon when he is pushed to the bench.

I also would say this: I believe Favors could be seriously special... Dwight Howard special. That said, I like both our young wings... but it is very debatable as to how they will develop. What is their ultimate upside? It could be great, but it could be mediocre. Is Hayward Dunleavy Jr or Ginobli. Is Burks a back up or Harden? Until we find out, I think we need to throw some picks at this wing position. This is a great draft to do that. Veterans (Iggy or Granger) won't be good in 3-5 years when we are ready so I believe we do something now to give ourselves the best chance at getting a stud wing player.

Yes, yes you did. I like Millsap but wouldn't have a problem moving him for the right deal. Harrison Barnes isn't that deal. IMO the kid will be a bust. I've said it ad nauseum in other threads but that's what I meant more than anything.

Harrison Barnes DID one thing pretty well (shooting) but towards the end of the season he did it averagely, at best. And even when he was good it was only in a catch and shoot basis. He's an average athlete by NBA standards (and that may be being kind), his defense is blah, he doesn't get to the rim, average rebounder etc etc.

North Carolina could use Millsap.

Doesn't work. Milsap has no more eligibility

However, Al Jefferson still has four years of eligibilty but UNC would have to throw in Zeller to make the salaries match.
