What's new

My best guess for Jazz offseason. (not that exciting)

yeah but if you look at his spot up 3 point percentage, I think you'd find it to be pretty low. He was only knocking down off the dribble. He's terrible at catching in shooting.
I Agree with some of what you are saying, but i think burks plays bad without the ball. He needs the ball in his hands to be effective. His effectiveness went down when we started playing him off the ball.

Actually I would say the opposite. I think his catch and shoot would be off the charts, and his off the dribble would be low, especially for 3pointers.

Not a fan of paying Foye 3 mil a year, especially when someone like Bellinelli is making 2 mil this year. Foye just doesn't add enough to the team to make that much.

Good! So biedrins and Jefferson can play ahead of kanter/favors and burks! I like it!!!! Is there any way golden st could throw in another vet so we can bench Hayward?

Golden State will need to get rid of 1 or both of those contracts to be able to afford re-signing Jarrett Jack, so they will be desperate to get rid of them. We would only need to take back 1 to get 2 first round picks imo. The value of expiring contracts is a overrated, we couldn't do much with what we had this past year.

Having said that, I'm not a fan of doing any kind of deal with golden state

As long as we can keep signing vets to play over our young guys who clearly aren't ready so we can compete for the 8th seed I will be happy...

OP's scenario is almost exactly what I want the Jazz offseason to look like. I know we have to spend a shade over $20 million just to meet the cap minimum (that figure includes Marvin & Murphy being under contract for next season). I want to take on players exactly like Biedrins & Jefferson, players that can't take minutes from our young guys but only expire at the end of the season. That's the only scenario in which Corbin is basically forced to play the core four and our new picks. Signing a decent vet PG (Bynum is perfect) who isn't good enough to play fourty minutes, and can share minutes with whoever we draft at #14 (Schroeder?) is ideal.

For the Jazz to succeed, they really need to get out of their own way. The less is more approach is the right one to take this summer. I think it's hilarious that people think we'll be a high lottery team by playing the core four more minutes. At worst we'll be as competitive as this years team, if not better. If the kids get heavy minutes, I see us realistically somewhere between 8th-10th in the West.

The only scenario I like where we spend $7-9m on a free agent is on a young point guard. Jeff Teague will be 25 this summer(!) but I would give be OK giving him a front-loaded deal that averages around $8m a year.

In another thread I had Richard Jefferson as a potential veteran to bring in to take away development minutes from younger guys. With KOC out, I have no idea, so that kind of throws a wrench into all my projections.

My best guess for this offseason

Bledsoe , butler for burks, m. Williams, g.s. picks
Jack 4 yrs 25 million
Mayo 4 yrs 25 million
S. Haws 4 yrs 25 million

I always think of Burks as a "welfare" version of Russell Westbrook, SG pushed into a PG role who is a fantastic scorer, especially when he has an elite player to play off of (KD, Kevin Love). I think Burks could be our PG with his style of play if we bring in an SG who really attracts attention. Eric Gordon supposedly wants out of New Orleans, kind of a headcase, egotistical, injury-prone, with a hefty contract, but I feel like if we are going to play our C4, he could be a perfect addition.

Offensively with Burks, Hayward, and Gordon, opposing defenses cannot pack it in to increase pressure on Favors/Kanter. And all three backcourt players are exceptional attacking the basket, which could be devastating to opposing defenses when it comes do drive n dish. Two good shooters would always extend the defense and really enable two bigs to finish dumpoffs.

Isn't Gordon a middle class version of Russell Westbrook without being forced to play the point?

Not looking for a Westbrook, superstars are out of our reach. Burks is the one who would fill that Westbrook-type role anyways. We've never had a great scoring SG and I think by adding that threat from the SG position would completely change the dynamic of our team.

So we would have 3 shooting guards who need starter minutes? I like Eric Gordon, but not sure I like him on this Jazz team. Maybe with just Gordon Hayward, because he can play the small forward in spot minutes, or with just Burks, because he can play some point, but with all three, that crowds one or two out.

I'd say Eric Gordon is more of a poor man's Wade than a Westbrook....in the sense that he's not a wreckless driver

I'd love to throw a 2 or 3 year deal to Calderon to see what happens. He has a decent 3 point shot and can pass. I know he sucks on defense, but as long as we don't bring back Mo or Foye, it shouldn't be too bad.

Calderón / Schroder / Patty Mills
Tony Allen / Burks / Karasev
Hayward / Carroll
Pau Gasol / Marvin Williams / Evans
Favors // Kanter / 2 Rd pick
