My Guess: Corbin is Re-signed

Ugh.

Found it interesting at practice today that Ty Corbin talked about working with players in the summer and getting them ready for next year.

Corbin also talked about how the Jazz will try to get better this final week.

Doesn't mean anything. The report that the jazz plan to make a decision on Corbin by 4/30 is all you need to know. He will not be signed. A new panic has taken over jazzfanz....oh noes!

Found it interesting at practice today that Ty Corbin talked about how horrible of a coach he was and how he wouldn't be working with the players in the off season because he was going to be doing his new job, mowing lawns while wearing Versace.

Corbin also talked about how the Jazz will try to be as awful as possible this final week. Corbin is practicing an offense that involves just passing the other team the ball within the first 8 seconds of each shot clock.

There is no chance that Ty will remain on as an assistant here with the Jazz. That isn't the way the game works. He will get hired as an assistant somewhere else, probably do a good job, then in a couple of years somebody will be kvetching "why couldn't we have kept Ty as an assistant?, he would have been sooooo much better than X" Also, "WHYYYYY are they giving Wigging only 37 minutes!!!, he needs at least 39 to shine!, I'm going to cheer for the Blazers!"

Anyone feel like looking up the worst coach (record wise over an initial contract lasting more than 2 years) that got re-signed by the same team?

Kurt rambis went back to being an assistant. But that was for Phil Jackson.

They won't be firing him, they will just not renew his contract imo. It's a way for Corbin to save face, and not to fire him. They will put a spin on it at the presser.

I don't see Corbin coming back.

Lindsey made a huge deal about Ty's ability to evaluate talent last year after the Trey draft. Lindsey said that Ty Corbin saw something he liked in Trey Burke when scouting him and so the jazz took action to move up based on Ty's assement.

At the time I thought Lindsey was trying to publicly distance himself from Trey by pegging it on Ty. Latter I considered that the jazz could be planning to move Ty Corbin into a role with scouting and player personal, a job held by Walt Perrin. The more I thought about it the more it makes sense. It is consistent with the character of the miller family to reward an employee who tried hard, and was loyal. Plus Ty by every account represents the miller family values.

My prediction: a new Jazz coach in June, but unless Ty chooses to go to Phoenix with Jeffery he will still be a jazz employee come October.

This just make too much sense.

Why do I think this?

I believe the Jazz pride themselves on loyalty first and foremost. The Miller organization, since they've owned the team, haven't fired a coach... ever! As much as we love Jerry now, you can find posts on this forum that call for his firing plenty. I believe they will play the card that the team's long-term direction forced Corbin to have a less-than-ideal product to work with and that isn't his fault. They'll see slight improvements in some players and schemes that will validate their reasoning. I have no idea what those would be but I bet they find them.

I expect a two-year contract to be signed.

Just a hunch... I'm interested to see how it plays and, if it happens, the fan reaction.

Come on you really don't know what the fan reaction will be if they re-sign Corbin? I guess you've missed all the fire corbin threads. The meltdown might cause the earth to open up and swallow the entire SL county or state .. country..earth.. universe. As a fan of the Jazz, I am ok either way, but the thought of the meltdown would be fun to watch.. yes I am a little evil.

At this point I have no idea about what the Jazz will actually do, I think he is gone simply because of the teams record after the all-star break. However, I wouldn't be shocked if they brought him back either due to the loyalty theme.

So, they wouldn't be firing Corbin. They'd be letting his contract run out.

I will hate you if you're right. :(

I put the odds of Corbin being re-upped at somewhere between 0 and 0%.

No chance. The fans have lost interest and so has the team. They know he's not coming back and have tuned him out.

I feel like this is the Great and Powerful OZ is stepping out from behind the curtain!!

I don't think it will be hard for the Jazz to move on from Ty and his staff. If you look at it from DL's point of view, there are probably more reasons Ty and his staff aren't producing than we as fans know. He sees the games as well as the preparation and everything that goes on behind the scenes. DL's worked with some great coaches so he has a good idea of what he needs from his coaching staff, he's most likely got a few guys in mind and is probably looking forward to making that decision and getting that new guy and his staff in here.

Ty gave it a shot, just didn't work out. Not everyone can be a head coach.

"Fire

They won't fire Corbin. His contract is expiring. They always extended Sloan so that he wouldn't coach as a lame duck, just like Corbin did this season. Corbin is a goner. Book it.

The word "fire" is to dismiss from a position. You can fire someone in the middle of a contract (in which you must meet the remaining contractual obligations) or at the end of a contract (by not offering a new contract). If you are involuntarily out of a job, you are fired.

Hes coming back. I guarantee it. Ive been saying it the whole time. Jason must be reading my posts.

You do know that we tanked on purpose this year right?

You do know that we played the highest combination of the youngest players in the league right?

That Jazz wont do Corbin like that. Hell get 2-3 more years.
