What's new

Neto is pretty neato.

Burke is fine. As was mentioned earlier, Raul's been playing against a similar level of competition to Summer League for the past two years. He also doesn't have the huge amount of pressure on him that Burke does being the #1 PG selected in the draft.

From the little research I've done, it seems like the vast majority of NBA starting point guards struggle in Summer League, particularly if they're at a disadvantage in terms of height. That isn't to say that they won't be successful - it just means that they have a huge growth trajectory to learn the system, adjust their games, and learn how to capitalize on both.

He's smart, hungry, and a hard worker. He'll be fine.

I have to say Neto looked good. But come on guys we are judging again after only seeing him play 20 minutes. It'll be fun to see Burke and Neto play tomorrow.

As much as I would love to see Neto play this year and share the school of thought that you don't babysit your floor general and vocal leader of the future sparing him of competition, I agree that most sensible would be to leave him in Spain for 1 year to see how Burke develops under a veteran PG mentoring. We still gonna have young core with some experience next year and bringing Neto in replacement of the veteran PG wouldn't set anyone back. In perfect world Neto would replace Tinsley next year. If he still outplays Burke with one year of NBA under his belt then he better learn how to deal with it and it's a good problem to have being the Jazz.

I don't know what to do with Neto. I loved the kid when I saw how he played. I was really excited the Jazz were able to get him in the draft. As much as I want him on the team, I only want him over here if they are going to play him. If you bring him over to just have him sit and learn then you lose a full year of his rookie contract. Being a second round pick his contract won't be as long so it would be a wasted year.

Since when has starting 2 rookies at the same position worked out? What are we now, the Timberwolves?

As much as I hate to say it, we drafted Burke to be the man and Neto to be trade bait or plan b. there's no way to tell whether Burke sucks or Neto is good in the summer league. This can only be decided in the NBA regular season.

He has a year or two to do it. To become the man. Otherwise, Neto should be brought over and Burke benched/traded.

Bringing Neto over right now I think will run the significant risk of destroying both players.

Another perspective to consider is what if Burke & Neto are playing at the same level? What then? Do we start Burke 1 night and Neto the next? I don't think that's a good arrangement...

It would be good if we have Westbrook vs Reggie Jackson, Westbrook is clearly better so there is a nice pecking order there.

It's just something we have to think about, cos that Tinsley/Watson tandem was ugly last year. You don't know who was gonna play. Tinsley would play 4 straight games and miss 4 straight games, etc, etc.

Reggie Jackson is Westbrook clone.

1280 Radio boys were saying that Locke reported after the draft that there were some scouts who thought that Neto was a better prospect than Trey.

I hadn't heard that. Hopefully none of you heard it either because that would really fuel the fire of a pg contreversy.

Competition is good for the team. Having two good young Pg's go after each other will only make them better.

If both are playing at the same level, then one can be traded for a true 3, or more draft picks. Having young point guards playing at a high level is always a good position to be in.
