New Orleans wants JAZZ name back

If it's been said already, I apologize, but how about the Supersonics? It'll make the transition that much easier in 5 years.

Benson wants the Jazz name because of its beginnings in New Orleans. Sure. What he really wants to do is distance himself from the Hornets name and ally himself with a longtime, stable winner, the Jazz. If the Utah Jazz were as historically terrible as the Clippers, Bucks, Cavs, TWolves, Warriors, Bullets/Wizards there is no chance in hell that Benson would want that name.

The Miller's success in managing the Jazz and building them into a winner is why Benson now wants to hijack the name back. After 30+ years and he thinks he can stride in and lay claim to something that Utah made better. Douche move, old man.

If somehow the name gets taken back I vote that the Utah franchise be renamed the Katrina Orphan Refugee Looter Superdome Corpse Pilezz.

If Utah does sell the name to NO, I would be royally pissed...at first.

After my initial shock and disappointment with Greggy boy and Gail over destroying our history and our team legacy, and after hearing from old players and coaches like Stockton, Malone, and Jerry over how they should have left it alone, and how "Karl Malone thinks dey done ****ed up!", etc. I think I'd then do what I'm sure most of you remaining "Utah" fans would do and start looking forward to all the speculation, rumors, and hearsay about what our new mascot and logo will be.

There are suggestions out there already, some have no chance, others have potential.

If I were to suggest some new names for Utah, I'd say:

1- Utah Stars
Obviously, this one has history. The Utah Stars were the old ABA team we used to have before the NBA and the Jazz came here.
The colors could be a nice, patriotic Red, White, and Blue or Red, Silver, Blue. These colors and jerseys would obviously sell fairly well, especially if they went with a vintage ABA look. https://www.remembertheaba.com/abauniforms/NewUniforms619671970.html Hell, we might become America's team with a look like that.
The cool part is that the Utah Stars were winners! Champions as a matter of fact.

2- Salt Lake Seahawks or Utah Seahawks
Our state bird is the Seagull, but that's a sissy name for a bird. A Seahawk is menacing and bad ***!
Greens and blues would work for colors.

3- Utah Wild
Utah is known for it's mountains and wilderness among other things. I understand the Minnesota NHL hockey team is also called the Wild. Yeah, they're not that great, but I've liked that name for a team since they came into the NHL.
We could go with earthy colors and tones for our logo and colors, greens, dark browns, etc. The bear mascot could stay the same if we went this route.

4- Utah Olympians
I saw this one in an article about the name change in the SL Tribune. I didn't like it at first, but have since warmed up to it.
The colors could be Olympic ring colors? Blue, Green, Red, Yellow, Black...or some 3 color combo of those colors?

5- Utah Saints
This has been thrown around here and there for as long as I can remember. Obviously, the church ties are there. I'm not LDS, but that doesn't mean that I wouldn't root for this team if they were called the Saints. You could do black and gold like NO or go a completely different route and logo. I think it could work and fans and players would be cool with that name. Also, the best part is there already is a team theme song out there if they went this route:

@ Chawx

1. Sounds like a WNBA team name.
2. I do not liek this one due to remembering the Seahawks when they were in the Denver Broncos division back int he day.
3. I actually really like the Wild as a team name. We would even be able to keep Bear as a mascot.
4. Just do not liek it.
5. I would prefer not to have anything churchy.

Having said that no way, no how, no thanks to a name change.

The name goes nowhere. It can't be taken away, and I am pretty sure the Millers know better than to give it away.

This whole discussion is over an old man blowing smoke out his ***.

1. We had the Utah starzz (WNBA)
2. I really like Seahawks, but I would feel like we are ripping off Seattle
3. The Wild sounds awesome
4. Don't like it. What if other U.S. cities had the Olympics?
5. Too religious...

LOL at the great whites.

How about Utah Frontiers?
Utah earthquakes (...if it happens haha)
Utah Alpines (we can use the mountain logo)
Utah Boilers (trains....for that golden spike thing)
Utah Rapids
Utah Eagles

Something wild or untamed....
I still think the Jazz is still the best, but its just fun to come up with stuff.

At the end of the day the joke is on you guys because weather you realize it or not Utah has been representing New Orleans on there jersey for the last 33yrs. Jazz will always and forever be New Orleans just remember that.

Have fun in Seattle!

Thats some interesting logic. So does that mean at the end of the day, the joke is also on the Los Angeles Lakers because they have been representing Minnesota on their jersey for the last 51 years?
