Newsok's Berry Tramel: "Kanter had no defensive mentor with Jazz"

It's not a great one. You can blame anyone's shortcomings in the NBA due to the "fact" they had no mentor, yet most players can overcome it if they care enough.

I don't think it's blaming it all on this one thing. It's just stating "Hey, Kanter has lacked this one aspect, maybe that is a signal that there is room for improvement". People here are acting like it's a crazy thing to say or a bad observation to make, it's not.

I see less blame and more "maybe if we babysitt him and force feed him how to play defense he might improve. They didn't have that veteran mentor in Utah that guided Kanter on defense that he desperately needs" Nobody is saying Kanter has insane untapped defensive potential that once utilized will be a juggernaut. Still nobody answered my original question. Do you really think if Kendrick Perkins type was on Utah Jazz instead of Al Jefferson during those years Kanter wouldn't be even slightly better on defense and perhaps sacrificing on offense?

For Kanter to have had a mentor he would have had to listen to somebody. The quote about Richard Jefferson talking about Kanter pretty much makes this author's point, moot. Because Jefferson apparently tried to mentor him and Kanter had no interest. IMO it is a bad observation and a pointless thing to say. It has almost no bearing on where Kanter is today and was a terrible article all around. He wrote this article from a biased POV to try and defend this guy. I'll admit the fans here are biased, as am I, but that does not make this a good point, because it's not.

Yes I really believe that. Because he's shown no sign of caring about that end of the floor. Or willingness to listen to help for that end of the floor. And how would having a guy like that, making far less than Kanter see's offensive players are making convince him it's important?

I must spread the rep first.

They are scared Kanter will blow up in OKC. Everyone knows they are a world class organization with the best GM in terms of eye for talent. Look who he drafts and where. He finds a gem every draft. Trust me he saw the diamond in Kanter's rough. He knows Scotty Brooks is a top 5 head coach and maybe the best developmental coach (look at what he did to Ibaka). Kanters flaws can easily be fixed like they mentioned his footwork. He can easily master pick and roll footwork.

This article proves Richard Jefferson lied. All Kanter talks about is defense defense defense. It's not his fault Millers screwed with him emotionally and on the court. Why did they ever bring Richard in to play over him? He cant mentor Kanter you twit. He's like 6'6, Kanters a giant. When are you going to get it threw your thick skull? The Millers abused Kanter and purposefully used him wrong. You need more evidence still? SMDH.

Dude. Why does a guy have to be bigger than him to teach him how to play defense? when did this 6'6" guy play over Kanter? Kanter talks about defense because he's getting bashed for it, the article proves nothing in regards to Jefferson's statement. If you believe the part about him being abused your a moran. Also I've neg repped you maybe once or twice for dumb *** posts like this one. The immature and stupid nature of these posts make you seem like an imbecile.

Richard Jefferson did a better job coaching the Jazz during that season than Tyrone Corbin did. That is why Corbin had to play him. In the games you could see him walking through the rotations with the younger players during a dead ball. Jefferson had his flaws, mostly due to age, but he had enough basketball experience and winning experience to teach every one of the young players on that team something about basketball, and although he knew he was a one year rental, he tried to do it. You can tell that Kanter was a **** to him about it too because he called Kanter out at locker room cleanout. Additionally the only tool that could be used to try to get Kanter to effort on defense was giving his playing time to other players. It didn't work. We whined about him being pulled because we thought his "advanced footwork" meant something too. People can improve if they want to improve. Kanter really doesn't give a rip. Looking forward to his lingering injury that keeps him from having to do training camp THIS year too.

Hey look another neg troll from freaks alt gregbroncs. Thats 3 negs in a row from you. I get pos reps and pm about you all the time.

Yeah because Jefferson was obviously an expert in low post d or playing pick and roll d against other bigs. Back in his all star days he was known as the anti Shaq.

Have any more dumb statements or should we wait till Kanter makes you eat your crow? He's already much improved in OKC and hasn't had the chance for practice sessions yet.

Somebody turned the OP troll red, but since nobody has yet taken credit, I will be pos repping everyone in this thread who isn't dumb. Sorry bloke, you don't qualify.

You essentially asked for a neg. I just obliged. I'm glad you get pos reps about me. Not enough to erase the little red dot by your name though.

He's improved so much that they essentially missed the playoffs because of his defense and mouth.
