Nikola Mirotic

Mirotic is most likely better than any player we’d draft.

Only a moron would give up Mirotic to tank for a player not as good as Mirotic.

This is a no brainer for Utah.

green hitting very heavy upon his return.

The article from espn also states that teams selling their vets are seeking too much for them. Mirotic is probably one of them. I can see them asking for favors + hood + our pick this year for him

I'm all for Mirotic as long as the price makes sense. Because really, does Mirotic get Mitchell and Gobert closer to a title or just closer to relevance?

I think Mirotic is somebody you have to take a risk on. If he's a consistent 2nd scorer behind Mitchell, then yes, he helps the chances of a championship.

Okay, so back to Mirotic. I want constructive criticism, but maybe this is the deal that does it:

Bulls get Joe Johnson, Moreland (nonguaranteed throw in) and Detroit's 2018 1st
Pistons get Hood and Favors
Jazz get Mirotic, Marjanovic, and Kennard
http://www.espn.com/nba/tradeMachine?tradeId=y8pxqhcf

Bulls would waive Johnson so Joe can go play for a contender. They could keep Moreland if they want. Bulls get a 1st rounder for Mirotic without any future salary.

Pistons add two good players for a scrub center, a rookie and a late 1st.

Jazz get our stretch 4 and a rookie shooter.

I haven't thought most of LoPo's proposals have been realistic. But this one seems to come a lot closer.

I think Bulls & Jazz would probably go for it (for Jazz, it depends how strongly they believe in Hood & believe they'll be able to re-sign him if they believe in him). This certainly helps Detroit for this year's run. I'm not sure if they're interested in it over the long term. But if the Pistons felt they could reasonably re-sign both Hood and Favors, those two would certainly be great additions for the mix of players they have.

Another interesting takeaway from this article is the value of wings right now in the NBA. With that in mind, I sincerely doubt Hood is going anywhere.

Especially from this year on, retaining/obtaining talent on rookie scale contracts is a must for the Jazz to move past mere relevance.

Mirotic is likely worth any combination of our current players not named Mitchell and Gobert, but he is not worth our pick. The question of whether he is > the player we draft in June is irrelevant.

Because the tank is likely to realize pick #10 I would be willing to get Mirotic (assuming price is right), but we can't forget cap schematics and upside that comes with drafted players. Our only way to get all stars is basically through the draft and when you hit it is a big freaking deal. Guys that are decent starters can be had through FA at decent prices... so replacement value needs to be considered.

That said if we went from 10 to 15 because Mirotic is that good i think he'd be a piece going forward... and furthermore if after two moderately priced deals his value is such that teams want to play $20M a year for him then that is great... means he's really good. I see no reason he would leave. He has been loyal to the Bulls and they have a guy on their team that broke his face. They also moved him around and prioritized other dudes. If he is good we have the money and will gladly pay him and he would have no reason to go elsewhere.

Like most high upside transactions the key is the acquisition price. Pay too much and you kill any upside the deal has. Get him for a bargain and even if his shooting dips (it almost has to) and it's still a homerun.

Does he help us win a title by the time we have the roster set up appropriately around them?

For example, let's just say that our goal to contend is 2019. That seems to be the time that makes most sense. Exum will have had a full year under his belt as a key player next to Mitchell and Gobert. Our 1st from this coming draft will have had a year. Mirotic would have had a year. That same summer, we would have to re-sign Mirotic at age 28 and put the necessary pieces around those 4.

Is the timeline, his age and his contract situation conducive to making us legitimate contenders? I personally think he should be fine, but I also worry about him getting some massive deal in 2019 and becoming our albatross contract as he ages and loses mobility. I worry about Gallinari-itis.

Every trade and player is a failure when you measure them with "do we win a title" or "does he help us win a title" it is so hard and rare to win a title. You want a building block that helps you win... Niko can be that. His timeline is fine and it is hard to line up timelines perfectly... in part because young guys flame out all the time. We can worry about championship windows when we are a consistent playoff team.

Get Niko if the price is right... pay him in two years if he's worth it. We will still need another big piece.

I am intrigued by Mirotic, but guys slow down. Look at his stats from last year:

10.6 / 5.5 on 41% shooting, 34% from 3.

His year before that he was essentially a Hood type players - FG% of 40% and 3pfg% of 39%.

He's a solid bench piece or occasional starter (depending on team make-up). He is not a needle mover in any way at all. Given this disappointing season I appreciate wanting something new to get excited about but Mirotic isn't a savior... I don't know if he would make our team much better TBH.

Spence Checketts (not the most reliable source for sure) says Mirotic to Utah is real... not done, but teams are talking.

So I guess he can read Espn.com too and make statements that would almost surely be true... but add one more sauce to the story.

I understand that completely. My counter argument is this - is it worth getting rid of our best current assets (Hood, expirings, Favors) for Mirotic OR maybe try to get a top end lottery pick for this year or next? Do we use our assets for Mirotic or do we use our assets for a younger higher risk / higher reward type target?

I was wondering about his defense and some Bulls fans answered some Nets fans question regarding defense on Reddit:

I know Mirotic was a bad defender coming out of the draft but it sounds like he has the potential to play defense when he feels like it.

But his defense wasn't working when Portis beat him up.

I agree that just because SC confirms something doesn't mean it's going to happen. Experience is our guide here.

But the relative infrequency of SC saying that talks are going on gives me a little more faith that he only puts something out like this when he's actually able to confirm that talks are going on. (Again, most talks don't result in actual trades).

This is a no brainer for Utah.

You have no basis to make a determination on if that player will be better than Mirotic. You have no basis to say the player will be worse.

Lmfao, is this?

Edit: Listen up guys! No one drafted in 2021 will every be better than Hill and no one drafted in 2022 will be better than Ingles. So just run this mill as is. No brainer.
