What's new

Nikola Mirotic

Mirotic isn't good enough and not on a good enough deal to trade anything truly valuable for him imo. He's on a two year deal, is having an outlier 17 game stretch, and has had locker room issues (not a huge deal, but another small red flag). I'd love to pick him up and give him a try if we are unloading some contracts to help Chicago clear space. I would hate it if we traded away a young lottery player with 8 years of team control for him. He's good but not that good.

Agreed, also he is still the only pg we have had that did a good job of feeding Gobert. That is pretty important to our offense.

He also was a decent shooter the second half of last year from three and a good one in preseason.
You're not a good shooter unless you're facing an NBA defense and sustaining success. Exum has done neither (he's often been guarded VERY soft on the perimeter, pre-season D=/= NBA D).

Exum COULD be good, but he HASN'T been.

He was pretty good the second half of last season when he started getting healthy and his new shot form finally got consistent.

Meh. I think it was pretty clear that he was much better. I agree that you can be a little skeptical but the difference was pretty large and not just in his shooting. He was finding open teammates, using his speed and vision to make a lot of plays, and did seem to have cleaned up his shooting mechanics. We can argue all day over if he will or won't but the signs were there. Tony Jones, for one thought he was primed for a big year and had improved massively and that's watching these guys daily in his case. So I think optimism is not unwarranted. If he can stay healthy he has a ton of ability.

Bradley and Favs (or whatever expiring they want... except Thabo) and our #42 is what I'd offer.

I only want this move if it's a bargain... I'm not that high on Bradley. I'd much rather see us sell off Hood, Thabo, Favs, JJ and get draft assets or young guys to develop that help us lose more. We get one of Doncic, Young, Porter to pair with Rudy and DM and we are gold... add in the other assets we could get doing that and I'd rather go that route.

It's a one year tank job and it would help set us up for the next 7-8 years.

nikola mirotic stock is high, bulls knows this. They need to unload him now. He's been a 10ppg scorer the past 3 seasons.

DONT DO IT UNLESS THEY ARE WILLING TO ACCEPT PEANUTS.

By that measure, Rubio was much, much better.

So...
That is a bad comparison. We have a lot of time to look at Rubio.

With Exum we have a season playing after taking a year off and his last competition being against HS. We then have post injury where he is recovering. Towards the end of last season is the what we have to base things on. But then yes he came out and shot well in preseason which is also a pretty decent indicator if someone can shoot. That is one things you can get out of preseason.

But yes, Rubio's shooting gave us something to be hopeful for. Players improve their shooting all the time.

You mentioned all the same things that Rubio did in the last half of the previous season. That's why it's skeptical.

Players don't fundamentally improve their shooting that often. It's usually stars good enough at other things to keep them on the floor that do.

You're reaching and cherry-picking, which is unfortunately the strongest argument Exum and his homers have at this point.

All I ask is that we evaluate reality here.

What the hell do we even have that the Bulls would want?

I don’t buy Burks. Maybe Favors. But I feel like unloading salary is probably their main priority.

I think the Jazz getting a top-3 pick is pure fantasy, but there is the possibility that Mirotic doesn't gel right away or sustain his play. It's almost as if he's playing well out of spite right now.

Yes and no... I mean we likely can't tank below 8 unless we really actively tank. What I mean is to trade really functional pieces like Thabo Sefolosha and replace them with guys like Mario Hezonja.

Say we moved Hood for Clevelands pick (not BKN pick), Thabo and Joe Johnson to NO for Ajinca and Asik (and their No.1 pick), Favs to Philly for Amir Johnson and a second round pick...

Okay maybe it is a fantasy... no team goes that hard. I'd consider it though. We are 2 games out of the #6 spot... 21% chance at top 3 6% chance at 1. If you stay at 6 you are choosing between Bagley, Bamba, maybe Trae Young if he falls. If Porter doesn't release his medicals he could slip there.

What would we have to trade to move from 12 to 6? Its a trick question... outside of Rudy or DM we couldn't and we wouldn't offer them.

Say we land at 6 and it is Bamba or Jackson... what could we get to move back? A lot... I just think a hard tank job is in order. We are as close to a top 5 pick as we are to a playoff spot.

Do I have to mention that this chemistry never occurred in a real game, and that Exum is easy as hell to scout?

No. I think his detractors have ample evidence to project him as a bust. I simply disagree that we have seen everything that we need to see from him. I think he will improve every aspect of his game, and I hope that the improvements will be markedly better.

One thing to remember on him... he paints a really positive light for his guys... and DL and Quin are his guys. Have appeared on the pod... Woj speaks highly of the Jazz.

He's a reliable resource for sure and I think it says we have some interest, but I don't know that teams are targeting AB like he says. I am glad we are in Woj's good graces.

BTW I saw him at summer league... I knew he was kind of nerdy looking but he is just a short average dude. His hustle is inspiring to me. He has become such a huge deal with smart hard work.

Of course teams are targeting AB

lmfao

So they are going to use a first round pick to get ALEC BURKS?

You should really just give up on making fake trades.

I think that what lopo (and woj) were saying is that they really want to get rid of a bad contract. So it’s not simply that they get Burks (a guy who plays a position that they apparently covet according woj) but that they get to get rid of a guy that they don’t want to pay. At least that is how I understood it.
