What's new

Nikola Mirotic

That settles it. Burks and Favors to Charlotte for Kidd-Gilchrest and Zeller. The Jazz cement their inside the arc identity.

I'm going to throw out a trade here:

PHX trades Len and Monroe
PHX receives Favors and Rubio

CHI trades Mirotic
CHI receives Bradley and Len

UTA trades Favors, Bradley, and Rubio
UTA receives Mirotic and Monroe

Who says no and why?

The bulls would have to take on long term salary to trade with the Blazers. They won't do that. I think most of the Blazers contracts are 2 years after this one. No way Bulls do that imo unless they get a young talented player and a first round pick. Blazers are painted into a corner with their contracts

yep Portland has like what the top 3 highest payroll in the NBA what a mess, was just thinking they wanted to unload some of it for Niko, just was reading this in a trade related article

Why does Chicago want Bradley AND Len?

Are they trying to roster a team of only centers?

I think there’s another angle to a Mirotic trade: the possibility of upgrading him.

I’ve been a huge supporter of trying to get Kevin Love. That obviously won’t happen this season but it may this summer when LeBron leaves. Unfortunately, at that point, we would have no way to send salary back in a deal and would no longer have any assets to make it work. If you have a good $12.5 million add a decent player with expiring contract expiring contract in Mirotic, it opens up some doors for a deal like that (or for someone else). Next year we will have Burks and Rubio as our expiring assets and I don’t think those fetch you anything decent.

Obviously. The numbers would also work for just Len, and we could give Bradley to PHX. Or keep him.

If we could move Rubio for expiring contracts I'd do it. I don't think Phoenix would, but who knows... maybe some still believe in Rubio.

Detroit is looking for a PG and Detroit has two assets which are possibly available - Luke Kennard (there has been talk he would be thrown in a Fournier deal) and their own first (which I'm sure they would lottery protect). They have a $7 million terrible big man named Marjanovic who they could include in a deal.

Rubio for Marjanovic, Kennard and a non-guaranteed contract sounds like a winner to me. We save over $5 million for next year and pick up Kennard. Detroit gets a PG to help them get to the playoffs.

We can't be patient at all. It's very possible that Gobert has already peaked and is heading into veteran maintenance mode. I hope that's wrong, but given that it might be true, the time to build a contender is now, or the time to tank is now. There's no winning strategy worth pursuing in between those two options outside of hoping to get unworldly lucky in the draft.

The time to build through restructuring this lineup around Rudy Gobert and Donovan Mitchell is right now. I think the timeframe that the Jazz want to aim for is 2021. At that point Rudy is 28 and in his prime. Donovan is 24 and has 3 to 4 seasons of progression. That's when we need to be in championship contention.

I imagine an alternate reality where we never traded for Rubio, Exum and Rudy stayed healthy, and we use the OKC pick to get Mirotic.

Or we keep the pick and still get Mirotic because he won’t get a first rounder.

I’d settle for one of those things. Just a re-do on the Rubio trade would be fantastic.

I'm starting to think the whole Mirotic agenda only makes sense if we are keeping Hood. Next year:
PG/SG - Mitchell and Exum
SF Ingles
PF Mirotic
C Gobert
6th Man Hood

Ingles starts but goes to the bench rather early. The hope is that Hood can evolve into our Manu Ginobli offense/energy off the bench. Our draft pick can have the time to be groomed but get the minutes Burks has been getting.

In this scenario, Burks becomes even more irrelevant. Man I wish we could find a way to trade him for no returning contract.

Phoenix has shooting, they don't have defense and much playmaking at the pg position. If there is a fit for Rubio in the NBA, it is in Phoenix.

I agree that’s the best fit but I’m not sure they go for it. Warren, Jackson, Chandler are not three point shooters.

If they are all in on the tank then running Canaan and Ulis at pg is ideal. We know how hard they can tank.

If JJ is bought out or traded I’d do Rubio for Dudley and one of their good second rounders. I have a high opinion of Dudley though.

Suns have sucked for a long time though. They are losing their fan base in a state full of transplants. They can't really do another 3 year tank without serious consequences. . .

Maybe. Might be more of an offseason move though. Why win 5 extra games or so and go from 8 to 12.

Look I’m all for it... currently Rubio is fine but he hasn’t meshed with Gobert at all and soon we may need DM to get more playmaking responsibilities. So he kind of clashes long term with our two most important guys.

You're smoking crack. Hood doesn't resemble even a shell of Ginobli.

Our version of Manu doesn't mean the actual Manu. The best part of Manu was Pop's ability to bring a high quality starter off his bench to run his 2nd unit. Hood could be that for us, but never at the same level as Manu.
