What's new

Game Thread Oct 07, 2024 07:00PM MT: Houston Rockets @ Utah Jazz (Preseason)

Yeah, I'm not sure how a tank is going to work here.

We've got one player who's a bona-fide stud in Lauri. Sexton is probably closer to that category than many here would like to admit. Clarkson is Clarkson, but when he's locked in, he's deadly. Collins is a solid starter in this league. We will find out which Kessler we've got this year, first-year or second-year. The Jazz have at least 3-4 good to very good players. There are some other veterans on the team, but I don't expect much of them.

The thing is, there are going to be at least 7 players twenty-three or younger whose upside isn't 100% clear yet. If only a couple of those players turn out to be net-positives this season, there isn't a way for the Jazz to lose 60+ games. Hell, if Juzang or Filipowski we're seeing in the pre-season are for real, I can't see 50 losses without major injuries.

The Jazz are not built at all like the terrible teams of NBA. We've got two really good players just entering their prime. We have a couple of other good starters. We've got so many young players that someone has to pan out among them, and yet none of them are expected to carry a huge load. The Jazz are built like the play-in teams of this league, not like the Wizards/Pistons/Blazers kind of teams.

Also, Reed Sheppard kind of reminded me of Trey Burke watching him today. Like the only shot it felt like he could get was the PNR mid-range pull up. But it did look buttery.

Some of the players the Rockets played when the Jazz made their run will more than likely be playing against the Stars this season or headed to parts unknown.

Surprised to see a lot of Collier negativity when I came away pretty impressed with some sequences. He had one really impressive tough finish. He's now had 2 games where he got multiple steals (at least from what I remember watching). And in the first half when the offense was really stagnant he came in and was a nice change of pace.

I just got back from the game. My main takeaway is that Keyonte isn't a lead initiator. I don't think he processes and makes reads fast enough to be a lead decision-maker with the ball. Truthfully, I'm not sure there's anyone on the roster that's better suited than Keyonte at the moment, but I wouldn't pencil in Key as PGOTF. I still think he's a score-first combo-guard. He can make a few plays, but I'm not sure the feel is really there.

He's just small. It's hard to make an impact when there's just so little physical presence. He couldn't even get a hand up to bother Clarkson's shots.

cody williams can disappear like nobody's business.
Been telling y’all to slow your roll with him.
truth not worried though I think he's going to be incredible
What do you see in him that’s so incredible. He can’t create not all that athletic and not strong. He’s looking like a decent defender at worst and a good finisher but he can’t get inside because he can’t dribble drive or create separation.

So someone tell me why he’s so special?

I wouldn't want to be the Rockets though. They tanked a season for Jalen Green. Then they tanked a season for Jabari Smith. Then they tanked a season for Amen Thompson. Then they just got Reed Sheppard with a #3 pick. They don't have anyone on their roster who can be a top-40 player in the league.

People criticize Detroit, but I'm not sure Houston has done much better.
