Off-season Targets

As much as I appreciate Exum supporters, you thought Exum would be better than Hill and starting this year.

Here's the thing about all of your Exum complaining; Utah is already going to be in a bad spot financially. Having Exum blow up next year and then have to max him out would not be ideal. Ideal would be to bring him along slowly, and then have him make the big jump after signing him to a reasonable contract.

He's not ready for the starting role on a contending team, and Utah has some incentive to develop him slowly for one more year. In other words, I wouldn't hold my breath on Exum making some big jump next year.

only problem with this theory is that if a desperate team or a spiteful team decided to throw him a ridiculous huge offer in UFA ... you then have to make a decision without really knowing exactly what you're paying for. And if he is unhappy with his court time or how he perceives he's been handled, has he got more incentive to chase other offers ??

We have stayed down because we didn't capitalize when we could. OKC will regret not trading Durant for years...

Maybe, but that's exclusively hindsight speaking. They don't choke in the playoffs and advance to the finals then we're. It currently in our own predicament against GSW right now.

has anyone mentioned Ersan İlyasova ?

I think he could have been useful last year and perhaps this year but not next year. We need Bogut. And we need Favors to do nothing else on the court this summer (to get healthy) besides shoot threes.

The Jazz need another stud. Hayward, Gobert, ?. As far as I'm concerned filling in that question mark is DL's primary job right now.

Edit: other than bringing back the stud we have

A lot. It gives us about 10 million more in cap room. But that would be financially unwise for him, both long-term and short-term.

Seems like a no-brainer to me actually.

I think the ideas being thrown around in here are helpful, and getting us on the right line of thinking.

That is the problem with crossing this level. You are thrilled to make the playoffs and win a round, but you must go UP from here.

Who will come in an make us better. We don't have to even beat the Warriors next year for me to be happy. We just clearly have to have improved, and at least feel realistically in this series.
We will improve next year even without making any moves (other than re-sign ing dudes) just by health improving plus experience.

I think our new roster spots will come from trades and draft picks. If we sign someone it's going to be a very solid contributor.

IIRC if he opts out and leaves he is looking at 4 year 120 million dollar cobtact. If he opts out and stays he is looking at a 5 year 150 million. If he opts in and makes the all NBA team he is looking at 16 million plus a 6 year 210 million contract.

Nah, they dont regret not trading him. They regret blowing a 3-1 series lead over the Warriors.

They should regret it. I mean, it seemed pretty obvious that the chemistry was kind of awkward between those two players. Yeah, they had a legit shot at a ring, but a trade could have set them up as true contenders for years to come.

Can't really criticize them for not trading him, but I don't know how you could lose one of the most valuable players in the NBA for nothing and not regret it.

Here are the variables from where I see it:

You get a long-term contract now when you can. You never know what could happen health-wise that could change that.

If you opt in then you're leaving money on the table such as Cy's scenario where he just signs a 1 year deal for the max to pursue the super max later.

I don't see any reason to opt in to the current deal when he could be paid more for a 1 year deal unless he believed it gave us cap flexibility to bring someone else in.

I see almost 100 million dollars that would make me go for it. If it's me I'm thinking that I'm safe as a millionaire. I'd risk it for the opportunity to be pushing billionaire status at the end of my career.

Srsly Hayward's grandchildren will want for nothing as is. Is there a better situation to be in to gamble on yourself?
