Official Jazz workouts thread

You guys are still misunderstanding the workouts... they're cooperative. Most every team every year ring in players not in their range...and they share data.

There must be a conflict of interest issue in there somewhere...........

Presumably teams also work out prospects they're interested in on their own...

If Schroeder was awesome when Dallas worked him out but Utah said he sucked, I'm pretty sure Cuban can figure out what's going on.

There are 14 media members at the Jazz's practice facility. In other words, we outnumber pre-draft workout participants by 700 percent.
Utah Jazz--the only show in town, another reason to love them.

I guess Zeller was on the radio, I missed it. Did anyone who heard it want to giive a recap?

Jonathan Rinehart @jonrinehart Jazz draft workout Cody Zeller will join Tony Parks and Jake Scott on 1280 The Zone in the next few minutes.

Steve Luhm @sluhm about 37 minutes ago Jazz player personnel guru Walt Perrin liked Zeller's athleticsim during his pre-draft workout.

Steve Luhm @sluhm about 39 minutes ago Zeller said he knows Gordon Hayward. His final three college choices were Indiana, Butler and North Carolina.

But I question that in this case because in most scenarios a player does not workout for a team far below his draft projection. This is especially evident for players who are projected early to mid lottery--like Zeller is.

I guess that the Jazz could have had Zeller in as a favor to him or his agent as a warm up for another work-out, or some other thing....

Its not uncommon at all. This one feels Jazz specific.. but just not sure.

Well this settles it:

Workout with Jazz was first of many for Cody Zeller: "It's been a lot of talking so far, so it's fun to be out here working out finally."

Cody Zeller, an athletic 7-footer, should be long gone when Jazz pick at 14. "Weirder things have happened, so I just wanted to be safe."

Cody Zeller's next pre-draft workout is this week with the Phoenix Suns, who have the No. 5 pick.

Jazz is Zellers backstop and warm-up all in one trip. Makes sense.

Locke hardly Ever does a player outside of our draft range and Zeller is mocked around 4-8.
Peculiar if you ask me. The other player in the workout? Probably just somebody to work against Zeller. I don't think the other guy is important. But this workout with Zeller is strange because it suggests that the Jazz may move up.

EDIT: Zeller is mocked at 11 on DX and 10 on Ford's site. His stock has gone recently, despite good workouts.
There are always trade possibilities. Utah needs a 3rd big. Better to kick the tires now, just in case none of the guards is all that impressive. Phoenix drafting him at #5 seems a bit high. Maybe he drops to the #10 range and Utah moves up. Would the #14 and our second-rounder do it?

Watch out for ATT and HWS . I also have my mind on PTR and QWC. YIB and SAS could both move up draft boards quick.

That PKM is a bitch though.

I'd say no way that does it. Also, we may not want to give up much more yhan who we could get at 14 anyway.. though I do think most people here undervalue Cody.

Don't think he drops to 10 considering his potential along with the fact that the playoffs have shown that you need a big man.

Here is another workout.

Siva! I knew the Jazz are smart.

Siva is not only little.. and can't shoot.. but is also not very athletic. He's a great kid and good for chemistry but he's a 3rd string guy.

Is he better than Watson or Tinsley? If so, draft him with the 2nd-round pick and let him take over one of those roster spots.

I know, my expectations are rotational player (2nd-3rd string PG).

I'm sure everyone knows this, but just a reminder that the Jazz almost always work out 6 at a time. They love to fill up the workout with guys who will challenge the guys they are hoping to draft. Often they get mature, well coached prospects to go against higher rated young players. So young Zeller gets to go against some UVU dude who played 4 years.

I'm guessing that Siva is coming, atleast in part, to provide competion against a younger, higher ranked prospect.....or to throw passes to higher ranked post players. We shall soon see....

KOC is on 1280 tonight, and Rigby is on Weds. they should make an announcement for the other invitees.
