He said that he had nowitzki like numbers on long twos this year. Which he did. So did millsap last year. He never compared him to nowitzki over than that. He just said al had improved outside of the post.

Mentioning them in the same breath is wrong, and punishable by death. They are nothing a like. Big Al should be mentioned with Matt Harping, or Thurl Bailey.

ok, so if Thurl Bailey and Karl Malone shot the same percentage on free throws, would it be punishable by death to mention that they had the same percentage? He was NOT comparing them as players. He was comparing their shooting percentage on long 2's. There is a HUGE difference there. I have never heard of a single person comparing Al Jefferson favorably to Dirk Nowitzki.

Aaaand, Big Al is better than Harpring and Big T. He should be mentioned with Carlos Boozer and Tracy McGrady.

I must have seen a different quote, or paraphrase than you. I believe you if you say he was not comparing them as players.

let me just ask, do you want Big Al back next year?

Look, I don't want Al next year, but his mid-range game was Nowitzki-like this season. He has obviously improved his long 2s, impressive for a man who used to operate strictly on the block.

Just because it's hard to succeed in a team where Al is your only offensive option, and he's a defensive sieve, doesn't mean that you can't acknowledge great aspects to his game.

The data doesn't support this conclusion. Al's shooting numbers aren't at all improved this season, and they're significantly worse than Dirk's.

Note: Looking at both the NBA.com shooting stats and the mysynergysports.com stats.

What makes you think this? Have you looked at the numbers?

Al was 141-352 from 16-24 feet this season, 83-207 last season, and 89-214 in 10/11. That is, this was Al's worst season (by percentage, not volume) as a Jazz man on long twos, with a field goal percentage of .401 (.401 in 11/12 and .416 in 10/11).

Dirk shot .500 from 16-24 feet this season, .511 last season, and .526 in 10/11.

I fail to see the similarity.

I am just quoting what Dennis Lindsay said. He said that al shot 48% on long twos. Ask him where he got his data. All I was saying is that comparing one aspect of Al's game to dirk nowitzki does not mean anyone thinks he is as good as nowitzki.

No. I would be very sad if big al was back for any other reason than a trade.

He actually said afterwards that he shouldn't have said that.

Touche. I was going with the eye test, and trusted that Lindsey knows his stats better than everyone here. Maybe he was looking at different statistics.

Yeah he said he should check the numbers first. My original point was that Dennis is not an idiot. He does not think that we have a dirk nowitzki quality player we are dealing with. He was saying that al has improved aspects of his game, and it is true.

I mean if we are using him in a sign and trade or a trade at the deadline this coming season. I don't want al to play for the jazz again.

Oops responded to the wrong post

You said it was true Al had Nowitzki-type numbers on long 2s. It's not true. As per usual, your baseless assertion is false.

You are a dick. That is all. You cod learn some stuff by not being so condescending.

1. The eye test? How often do you watch Dirk?

2. The wrong statistics?

Look man, why do you think you need to show us how awesome you are every time you post? We get it, you are a smart guy with Internet access. Dennis Lindsay said something, and we assumed that he had looked up the stats. Nobody here likes al. We don't give a **** if he did or didn't shoot better on long twos. All we were saying is that Dennis Lindsay was asserting that he did. Get over it and stop acting like such a prick when you point out that you know more stats than everybody else. And just because we have different opinions than you, does not mean that they are baseless.

Having been the target of GVC a few time myself. His attitude does not bother me at all. He brings stats to the table and is good at it. Just ignore the attitude and read the stats. His point in this case (and in most cases) was valid.
