Official NJ Nets Watch

I'm tellin you we could end up with a top 3 pick. Minny is only 3 games behind us and right now they would have the number 2 pick. Then you always have a chance with the lottery balls too

Here's my order: Cleveland, Washington, Sacramento, Minnesota, NJ, Toronto.

Should move: Toronto can leapfrog NJ with Reggie Evans coming back. Can Beasley, Love, and Milicic ever figure out how to play together? That team should win a couple more games.

Could move: Sacramento has the pieces to win a few more, but that team is a mess from the Maloofs on down.

Going nowhere: Cleveland just lost Jamison. Washington is tanking on purpose. They trade off Hinrich for Bibby, then buy him out? The league should jump their asses.

Plus given the worst case scenario of every team jumping the Jazz (yeah 2005 was fun) at least the final position isn't too bad. Although from what everyone keeps claiming this is like a 2 person draft. Still, even if the Nets were 3rd and fell to 6th there's a good chance Barnes could be there, and he wouldn't be bad at that spot. Although I wish there was some stud SG out there would could shoot. That seems to be a weakness, sigh...although speaking of which, I don't know if it's a great pick but the homer in me wouldn't mind seeing Burks from Colorado here.

It is all going to depend on how many of the freshman will come out. If they pretty much all do. The top 10 will certainly be very quality. You also have 3 intl players highly touted. Though they are all pretty much PFs which is the least of our need. Barnes has certainly been scoring more lately, but has taken a lot of shots (most missed) to get them.

on the other hand, Deron has already helped the Nets to three straight losses.

But they are playing much better, and he is getting more (18) assists. I would feel more comfortable if he just had wrist surgery, or took some time off to rest the wrist. I'm all for NJ losing out the rest of the way.

Let's hope he brings the game he has all year against the Warriors this time around.

I'm scared of the chemistry he's going to develop with Lopez.

Their schedule isn't too bad the rest of the way, including a stretch of home games right now. Loss to Phoenix was important as they now could easily reel off 3 wins in a row. I'm hoping Detroit, Clippers and Milwaukee are far enough ahead (4 games) that NJ won't make up those games in the standings. I just don't see Toronto, Sacramento or Washington making a run.

Reasons to not draft Jimmer

If Jimmer is available around 13 range, please don't take him
1. He dominates the ball the whole time. He wouldn't fit in the Jazz offense where there are a lot of screening, cutting and passing involved. He takes a lot of bad shots but they go in. Everyone hates BJ Smiles, imagine Jimmer getting the ball and pulling up for 3.

2. He is not stand still shooter. He gets almost all his 3's in transition or off of crossovers. Who could develop that type of game but it would be a risk

3. Not tall enough or quick enough to play SG. Not sold on his PG skills

4. His D is horse ****. He is so lazy on defense and BYU gets away with it by playing zone and having an excellent defender in Jackson Emery

5. ESPN did some research and he was 3-13 against Billy White and didn't have success against Utah when Will Clyburn guarded him. Those are the type of people that will guard him at the next level

Jimmer is an excellent scorer but he would fit in an offense that is a run and gun or isolation type of offense like Golden State,Phoenix,Sacramento,Orlando, etc

Jimmer has unlimited range, and I'm sure is already better than any 2 or backup point we have on the roster. Please tell me why that's not THE reason to draft him.

First I laugh at the thought that Utah only had one man guard him. He usually has multiple guys assigned to him or they rotate different players on him. He dominates the ball because his coach wants him to. duh Hey I would love to have a 3 point shooter that can fake a shot and take a quick dribble to his right or left to get the shot off. Picture this - They would fly at him to stop his 3 point shot and it would allow him to attack and break down the defense with his dribble. Ever heard of playing 4 on 5? If we have 2 draft picks in the first round and one is around the 15th pick, I have no problem drafting him. At least he is pretty consistant with his shot, which is more than you can say about MIles or Bell. Last let me guess you are a Ute fan.

Jimmer bugs me. As a Ute fan I want to hate him, but he's just too good. It's just too hard to hate him. With that being said, I really disagree with unluckyseventeen. I don't think Jimmer is a better NBA 2 guard than somebody like Hayward. Some will flame me for that opinion and that's fine. Hayward is showing he can be at least a decent NBA defender (something I don't think Jimmer will EVER be able to do) and he does alot without having to have the ball. While he's not scoring in bunch's for Utah, the Jazz are starting to look like a smoother team when Hayward is in the line-up.

I'd rather continue to develope Hayward. Jimmer will carve out a niche for himself in the NBA, but it will be nothing more than an extremely undersized 2-guard who will give you an occasional 3-pointer. Don't get me wrong, Utah needs help at the 2 in a major way, but let's draft a guy who brings more than just 1 dimension to the table. Because of Jimmer's size, he will always be a liability when on the court and I don't see enough diversity in his game to make up for that.

I know this thread is about the lottery and our upcoming picks, but I want to know what you guys think about Wesley Johnson from the Wolves, he hasn't had a great year, but I think he has the potential to be a stud 2/3 guard, the kid can shoot, and I think we could trade one of our picks\package some players to get him. This team desperately needs a legit 2 guard and I think getting a young guy is the best route.

Thoughts?

I think the Nets are playing better but are still a bad team, so I think we are both in agreement.
:D

Jimmer's role on an NBA team would be different than his role at BYU, where he is asked to be the first and second option on offense.

Jimmer is the kind of guy that can make teams pay for doubling down in the post. He's a good enough passer to feed the post like Hornacek did, and a good enough shooter to score on a jumper or floater if he gets the ball back.

He's crafty enough to create space with crosses and jabs, and he's more than quick enough to come off a screen and hit all the way out to 25-feet. He also handles and creates well enough to pull defenders out of position the way Stephen Curry does.

I see him as a combo guard, somewhat in the mold of a Ben Gordon, Stephen Curry or Jeff Hornacek.

Is he a pure point? No, not yet. Is he a go-to scorer at the SG position? No. He's a kick-out guy and a facilitator if the post or the PG gets doubled.

Think Steve Blake or Jose Calderon, but with reliable shooting, more scoring and more all-around game.

He should go mid first round, but I could picture a team taking him a few spots earlier if they need a PG and think he could develop his passing game.

Clyburn didn't guard him the first game. They put Clyburn and JJ Obrien on him in the second and wasn't as effective 7-19. So when Billy White,Will Clyburn and JJ Obrien guarded him he was 10-32.

If we're looking to trade for a player in last years draft, why not go after Evan Turner with the 76ers?...
