Official NJ Nets Watch

The Nets probably aren't going to win enough to finish any better than 6th worst record in the league. They are a full 3 games behind Detroit and the Clippers.

The only question is whether the Raptors or Kings can make up a few games and knock the Nets down to the 5th worst record, thereby yielding an extra ~2.5% chance of getting the top pick.

This is what we're obsessing about, in case you needed this information.

Still too early to call that. Why can’t the Nets catch up to teams a few games ahead of them but you think that the teams a few games behind the Nets can catch up to them?
 
NJ has 19 wins today and Detroit has 23. That means that in order to pass up Detroit in the standings, NJ has to match Detroit's wins + 5. Detroit has 18 games left, so let's say 5 wins (based on .359 record and 3-7 in last 10). NJ would have to go 10-10 in order to pass them, which is a tall order for a .309 team, even it they are 4-6 in their last 10.

Clippers are even farther ahead with 24 wins, so NJ would have to go LAC wins + 6 to beat them. Clips have 18 left, so say 7 wins (.375 record and 4-6 in last 10). Now NJ has to go 12-8 to pass the Clips.

I won't go through all the math, but basically the Raptors (2 wins) and Kings (3 wins) are a little closer, so it's more possible. Still not likely, but more of a chance than the Nets climbing in the standings. Splitting the 2 games against the Raptors would have helped even more.

The Nets have recently gone 4-6 and were a basket away from having gone 5-5 the last 10 so going 10-10 may not be far-fetched. They were .300 with Devin Harris but now well they have a different point dishing out 15 assists a game. What could work for the Jazz is if the Nets start losing in the near future and just decide to shut down Deron with his bum wrist the rest of the season. The problem for the Jazz is if Deron can get healthy and becomes the Deron that plays with a chip on his shoulder, and out East at that.

The Kings have gone 2-8 the last 10. The Raptors aren’t much better. There’s also the issue of motivation. Those teams are out of the playoffs race and probably don’t want to make their pick or lottery chances worse.
 
Washington seems to be tanking it too. I just hope the Jazz can move up a spot with the NJ pick and then the Jazz pick gets in the 11th pick range so they may be able to move up and grab their guy.
 
Yea, it's because of this thread.
It's not because D-Will is jilted and trying to get back at the Jazz by ruining their pick as much as he can.
I think he will play through any injury he has the rest of the year if it means he can add some wins onto the NJ win total.

All true. I don't guarantee that NJ can't catch Detroit or the Clippers, but I just thought it was more likely to go the other way. But even that will be a challenge. 2-3 games difference is more significant than it seems where there are only 18 games left. The exception is when a team suddenly starts playing above or below their record due to trades, injuries, easy stretch of schedule, etc.
 
More salt on the wounds. What have Jazz fans done to deserve this treatment? I just hope the NJ pick stays where it is. I will be extremely disappointed if the pick becomes a 8th or 9th pick.
 
NJ probably passes up Detroit and drops the pick to #7. I'm also a bit worried about them catching Charlotte.

I think both the Clippers and Milwaukee will finish ahead of NJ. Nets have a home game vs. Clippers and then their scedule gets a lot tougher. They may finish with 28-29 wins. I don't see any of the teams behind them catching up; only Toronto had a decent chance, which they blew with the 2 losses in London.

I think we're looking at the #7 and #12. I'm predicting Jazz will finish behind both Phoenix and the red-hot Rockets, with Memphis holding on to the last playoff spot.

Clippers tonight. They Just won @celtics on Wed., and are on a 5 game streak.

Nets on their own longest win streak of the season--3.
