What's new

Official UofU homer thread

Poeltl is coming back guys and you're gonna be loaded. Said it a month ago.
Huh? these posts make it seem like he is not coming back. I guess i can google it.
Last year we had two players with NBA potential: Poeltl and Kuzma.

This year we will have Barefield, Daniels, Kuzma and Johnson.

While Poeltl was amazing, we will be more talented this fall.

Excited to see what Jayce Johnson can do but those are some giant shoes to fill

who's our go to player next year? kuzma?

I thought booker would go to denver in the 4th round (after he didn't go in the first three anyways... i originally thought he would go in the first 3 rounds) and i think thats a great fit for him and there are probably a lot of denver/ute fans that are really happy about it.
Seems like the type of guy that could do will with the broncos.

Only worrisome thing is that i think the broncos just re-signed ronnie hillman and cj anderson. Hope they can find room for booker in that backfield.
At least neither hillman or anderson are superstar backs.

I was shocked hackett didn't get drafted. He was the best punter in the country imo

Booker is probably the most talented back in that rotation. How quickly he learns to pick up blitzes and find holes will determine his playing time this year. CJ Anderson is a similar back to Booker but I don't think he's as strong or can make guys miss like Booker can. Hillman is a change of pace back that has ball control issues and is unlikely to make the roster with Booker being Drafted. At worst Booker is the Broncos backup RB to start the year. I'd not be surprised if he is starting a lot of this season. As A Broncos fan I loved this pick, as our backs struggled with consistency last year.

Bronco's are my 2nd or 3rd least favorite team, so while I saw it coming once the 4th round hit I was hoping that since Broncos matched Miami's four-year, $18 million offer it would keep them from drafting him. I know contracts aren't fully guaranteed but that contract seems like Anderson will be given every reason to keep the starting job, IMO the only way Booker gets much time is an injury to Anderson or Hillman or he out plays him, not by a little it would have to be a clear head and shoulders better and outplaying him and I'm just not sure he'll see the ball enough this year to do that.

I was also hoping the Phins would have drafted him in the 3rd round but they drafted the backup RB out of Bama instead (so disappointed) I get that he can return kicks and punts but still.

Hillman catches well enough. He would probably be good in the slot for the Broncos. I think this draft will once again confirm everybody that thinks drafting a running back early is stupid's viewpoint. The gap in production between Elliot; Henry; Paul Perkins and Booker won't be there in my mind.

Looks like Hackett will be in a competition for the Jets starting job vs fellow Aussie Lachlan Edwards who they drafted in the 7th round.

I have a hard time believing that they won't play the better player regardless of contract. Hillman's contract is not very much and he has not really shown the ability to be a better than Poor NFL running back. Most Bronco fans I know think Booker being drafted is the end of Hillman in Denver. Anderson was pretty good last year but he still struggled for large stretches of the season, If Booker shows the ability to be more consistent with the ball he will play, even if it starts as a backup. Denver shared carries between Hillman and Anderson a lot last year, this year I expect the ball to be shared with Booker and Anderson instead. Hillman is not that good, he lost the starting spot last year, by being ineffective and fumbling the ball too much. Denver wanted him to be their back he has not shown the ability to be that.

The Broncos have receivers, Hillman will not make the roster if he gets beat out by Booker. Hillman is not very good receiving out of the backfield, Booker is already a far better receiver out of the backfield than either of their other RB's.

I was so puzzled that Hackett signed with NY considering they drafted a punter ahead of him. You'd think there's a team out there not in love with their current Punter that is willing to bring Hackett into camp. Why go into a camp to face off with a Punter that was drafted ahead of you?

I'm really torn on this. Hackett is one of my all-time favorite Utes and I want to see him have a great NFL career. But as a Dolphin fan, I'm not really stoked about the idea of watching Hackett in a Jet uni run for 1st downs on fakes and blowing up our punt returners when he's the last man to beat for the next 12 years.
