Official UofU homer thread

Acting as though conference affiliation is the driving force in making a program is just ridiculous. Ask Iowa State, Kentucky, Vanderbilt, Purdue, Illinois, Kansas, Oregon State, or Colorado. Their football programs are just outstanding. Can it help? Absolutely. Has it helped Utah? Undoubtedly. Does it change the fact that Ute fans acting like green did in that post are incredibly hypocritical? Nope. And that's my point. And big props to green for his response.

I'm not sure what thread you're referring to here, but that's neither here nor there. If I was an *** (and I fully acknowledge I am completely capable of being a major ***) then I apologize.

Acting as though conference affiliation isn't a driving force in a rivalry is just ridiculous. Part of the reason the rivalry got so intense was because BYU and Utah shared the same conference for so long. Despite the intensity both teams did share a conference and most fans weren't rooting for the other to lose OOC games or bowl games. Srsly think about it, how many UTES fans speak glowingly about Steve Young and Danny Ainge?(answer:most do) That intense but good spirited rivalry has(since Utah leaving to the PAC12)devolved into pure unadulterated hatred. I think a lot of that comes from BYU measuring itself against UTAH despite it no longer being appropriate. Utah measures itself against the PAC12. Utah St. measures itself against the MWC. There's nothing wrong there. BYU still measures itself largely against UTAH. It needs to stop

Agreed. Although the rivalry was going downhill before the Utes went to the PAC12. It started when Utah started winning more. That's on us BYU fans. But my point had nothing to do with conference. It was about fans behavior.

but fan behavior has lots to do with conference. You can keep typing as if that issue can be bracketed, but it can't. But, yeah, you can keep typing.

On no, you're right. PAC12 fans are assholes ;)

it sounds like I'm a Ute fan, but I'm really not at this point. I can count the number of Ute basketball and football games I've watched in the last 5 years on one hand. I loathe the NCAA. I'm chiming in here because this stance that I hear from BYU fans that goes something like "see, now you guys are as prickish as we were; you're hypocrites" just sounds flat out dumb to me.

Can't we all just get along??? :)

Notice my original post about the legislature was about people using a position of power to force the game to be played. That's what I disagree with.
I don't disagree with the game itself, or the rivalry (although I think it could have used a longer cooling off period).

bigb, you're a class act, btw. same on you, fish. i'm glad you guys come in here and chat.

Now if we can win tomorrow... and have the championship outright... that'd be very cool. Worst to first. Wow. IN BASEBALL. Wow.

I would have never thought our first men's title would be in baseball. Crazy. How exciting.
Times like this I wish I liked baseball and I would watch and root for em... But alas, I can't bring myself to watch any baseball game. Seriously have not watched more than 5 total minutes of baseball in the last few years combined including playoffs and world series.

Pretty cool when that dude landed that wicked punch to the other dudes jaw a week or so ago. I was surprised how well the guy took the punch. Looked like a ko punch.

Agreed wholeheartedly. Especially the part about me being a class act.
When the football games didn't happen, I was pissed. I never thought it would be a good thing, but looking at the bowl game, I realized the break was good for both sides. I personally don't give two shakes about college basketball, but the game probably needs a break.

And it's official. Utah ain't sharing that crown with anyone and it's off to the tournament!

Screw you Dick Harmon.

Flying back from Chicago (oldest boy graduated Navy boot camp) late last night to find out that the U won the PAC12 Baseball Championship, guess because baseball was my first love (sport) it made me happier than I thought it would, that and even though it had been on the radar for a few weeks now I probably just didn't let myself believe it was going to happen.

So just wanted to keep this thread and that news bumped near the top and say congrats to the baseball team and even the women's softball team at least they beat UK (in Kentucky) only to lose to FSU but it was a really good run.

I woke up Sunday and was getting ready for Church and it was so beautiful outside that I knew God wouldn't want me to waste such a beautiful day he gave us sitting in a stuffy building with the blue hairs.

So the family and I went to the game. Over 6,000 people. You could hear the cheers from blocks away. It was awesome. When Utah won, it was very moving. I'm glad we went.

Where was it played?

Congrats on your son's graduation! Boot camp is always a major accomplishment. You must be very proud.

Smith's Ballpark - FranklinCovey Field... whatever it's called these days... home of the Bees. :)
That's a great field. Would have been a fun game to be at.
