Official Utah Utes Football 2012 Thread

Lastly, Witt's defensively philosophy has been plain exposed. The same players are put on an island 90% of the time. Too easy for teams to beat us once they wear out our front 4.

Wilson is a really solid prospect. He made some great throws into the second and third tiers of the defense.

The Utes lost this game on third downs (on both sides of the ball). Way too many drive-killers and drive-extenders. Also, questionable offensive play calling and game management in general.

It's no secret that inexperienced coaches and play callers create very questionable play calls and decisions.

Utah and BYU were so retarded hiring who they did at OC. On the job training at OC will give Bronco and Kyle a lot of nightmares and might even cost them their jobs.

Seriously folks, if these 2 teams don't get their offenses back on track, I could see at least 1 of these coaches being fired in another year or two.

With a decent QB and more experience for Johnson I think the U's offensive woes will work themselves out. That could happen really soon, actually. Their defense is further off. They have a front 4... that's it. Plus a bad philosophy.

The young LB's I think are hurting the D but somebody besides Star needs to step up on the DLine and the safeties particularly Blechen needs to step up big time, the U had UCLA in several 3rd and longs and gave up the first down more than they stopped. If my memory serves I think they actually stopped them more often on 3rd and short then on 3rd and longs and the D didn't force a single TO, the offense isn't good enough if the D can't at least do one of these (turn the other team over or get them off the field quicker).

Wilson is what Gunther said as far as he may show flashes of being able to win games but due to inexperience he may cost the game with TO's, now he only had 1 INT which was a horrible decision throwing into double coverage (almost triple as the third guy was a few yards away) on the opening drive when they had been moving the ball well. Then with no faith in the FG kicker (for good reason) went for it on several 4th downs and didn't convert any of them which is almost like a TO as far as momentum.

So when watching the game I had to keep in mind it is a freshman QB and basically a freshman OC running the offense (as well as a questionable OL) and while it sucks this year I hope this pays off in the future.

Oh and lastly penalties, this year for whatever reason the U is getting flagged a lot and to make it worse the timing of the penalties couldn't be much worse, the coaching really needs to get this fixed, like 3 weeks ago (still annoyed the the U WR Scott didn't get a PI call when the ucla DB was pushing him with 2 hands when the ball was about 10yrd away).

I'm heading down to Corvallis in my Ute red today! Hopefully, we do not get embarrassed to badly. Maybe we can even pull out the upset!

I'm liking what I see in Wilson. He needs some snaps before the college game begins to slow down for him, however, I'm optimistic.

P.S. - It would be nice to actually tackle somebody on a third down as well. We over-pursue like it's going out of style!

Nice! Have fun!

Agree on all points except hoping we don't get embarrassed.

C'mon man, optimism.

GO UTES!!!

Yeah I know... I've become the humbled Utes fan (I'm surrounded by Beaver and Duck fans who are on cloud nine... it's getting a tad old) I actually think our Defense matches well with the Beavs. Utes for the Win!

Nothin to lose, top 10 opponent, on the road, with a Freshman QB. If we win it'll be awesome, can't be too mad if we don't.

Man, Utah knows how to shoot themselves in the foot at the worst possible times at every game. The offensive play calling is questionable, and the lack of discipline and penalties are killing them. Running on third and long with no time hahaha

The Utes outplayed the Beavers tonight but that doesn't mean dick on the scoreboard. Frustrating loss. It was there at the goal line and then the play calling...ugh. Stop trying to be so smart, give the ball to York and celebrate a touchdown.

Free Kelvin York!

It is sad to say, but I'm already looking forward to next year. I don't even think they'll get to bowl eligibility this year. I am excited, however for what Travis Wilson can be; York has also been a nice surprise. I can't help but follow the rest of the season, but the Utes 2012 football campaign is a lost cause.

The game last night was a blast. It was the first time this season that I have been at the game, and I always have a better "feel" of things when I'm at the game. Some thoughts from Corvallis...

1) Our defense is really good, and it's a shame that the offense is letting them down. They gave up two touchdowns that were more or less gimmes because of field position. They would be a great defense if they could make a stop on third and long. Our inability to make stops on third downs is infuriating.

2) I'm optimistic about Wilson, however, the game needs to slow down for him. He stares down the receivers and he telegraphs where he is going to throw the ball. If he were to incorporate a pump fake or just look away from his intended target it would do wonders. With that said, Wilson can throw the ball well... he just needs to throw the ball well to the right guy at the right time and place.

3) Play Calling seems to be erratic. We are either overly conservative or we are razzle dazzle. I feel like our offense as a whole is lacking an identity.

4) The Beaver crowd was really into the game. I was impressed with the atmosphere. For the most part I was surrounded by great fans. However, there was one guy there who 'heckled' me by using obscene language and gestures, he did this non-stop and it was getting tiresome. The rest of the Beaver fans told him to knock it off and apologized.

5) Utah has no presence on the road. I thought we would bring some rally support in for the road game, but we did not. No band... no cheerleaders... no flags... nothing. In fact, the "Ute" section had a lot of black in it. And I'm pretty sure I was one of the only Ute fans in my section. I was surrounded by a sea of black.

6) Turnovers absolutely killed us in the game, extremely frustrating. We need to hold onto the pigskin.

7) If anyone ever goes to Corvallis for a game, remember to get there early... parking is relatively cheap (15 dollars - 40 if you go to the one by the stadium) but it is sparse. I killed fifteen minutes driving around the backstreets looking for a parking spot because the lots were full, and I didn't want to spend forty dollars.

8) The trip was so much fun that I am debating making a second pilgrimage to Seattle on the 10th of November... I had a Huskie fan in front of me tell me that the atmosphere is even better in the Northwest.

We usually travel pretty decent.

Looking at the schedule before the season started, @ Oregon State would have easily been anyones last choice of road trips they'd want to make.

I'm hoping to make it to every PAC12 stadium in the years to come. Love the college football atmosphere and it's awesome that were in a a big time conference with cool road games to go to now.
