Lol who is Dario Brizuela and why hasnt he played for Spain in their previous games?

Team that has relied on difficult shots suddenly got 10 easy point burst from a single guy scoring every which way.
These Spanish refs are a ****ing joke.

What? Do they actually have spanish refs in a game where Spain plays and is guaranteed to finish either 1st (W) or 4th (L) in their group?
I don't think they're Spanish, but with what passes for a legal screen on one side of the court and what passes for a charge on the other, they might as well be.

If Spain wins this game they need to build a statue for Brizuela.

Never seen a deep bench guy come in like this and look like a superstar in such a big game.

Spain are the ultimate refs pets, they will invent calls out of thin air and get them. James Harden studied at the Spanish school

How's the Kiwi men's team doing this Olympics? I'll wait... 4 years... probably 8... your move dickhead.
I love it when you have your hope up so high then it all came crashing down…

Didn’t they have a 4 game winning streak before the Olympics?

All friendlies though right?

You must have been so optimistic… lol..

Muahahahahahaha!!!!

Your natural tram would struggle to beat our under-age boys teams. Kiwis like that sort of thing tho don't they? Interfering with young boys? Just what you lot are like.

I think the question about whether Imane is a man or a woman is a simple one - she obviously considers herself one and apparently has her entire life.

The question of her or other intersex or transgender individuals' participation in women's sports IS a little more complicated, and can't simply be boiled down to XX=fine to participate and XY= not fine, which is an argument a lot of people seem to be running with. There's a reason the IOC stopped using Karyotype testing as part of their standards - people can (and do) go their entire lives as a particular gender only to discover their chromosomes don't line up with their purported gender. These revelations have upended people's entire lives, and don't always correlate with "male" traits or physical advantages derived from those traits over their peers anyway.
Yeah and I don’t even have the right answers at all. I just think it’s wild to say “she’s a tranny and this is akin to domestic violence” and politicizing it dangerously. The other side making it simpler is much less dangerous but doesn’t lead to any productive conversation when they say it’s similar to a reach advantage.

Heavy heavy eye roll. What kind of nuanced solution is there? You either compete as a female or male, or dont compete at all. Those are the 3 options.
Ultra heavy eye roll back at you assuming because a question has three potential answers that the way to get to the most correct answer isn’t full of nuance and gray areas.

I do think it’s worth considering the role that inherent genetic or biological advantages play in competitive sports as part of this conversation.

For example, if a trans woman or an intersex woman has a strength advantage over her peers, is that more meaningful than the same advantage a cisgender woman has thanks to a condition that causes her body to naturally produce more testosterone? Is it more meaningful than a couple inches of extra height, or longer limbs or any number of things that provide advantages in different sports?

It seems one side of this issue really isn’t considering this at all, but if we’re truly interesting in fairness - inasmuch as it can exist in sports, I think we should be.

France backcourt is so trash that despite having two 7++ footers they cant get the ball to either on the inside.

Wemby and Gobert only scoring on putbacks. They combine for only 6 of Frances 28 two point attempts.

I agree. It’s when they definitively declare “this is just like attribute x”. Well there is a reason we separate men and women in sports. And these instances seem pretty rare so I’m guessing the correct answer is to allow what happened. An overreaction on how we test female athletes would seem to have some more harmful results. And I’m dreading the poor high school girls who play in sports that are more masculine and the BS they might get.

It’s just complicated but everyone seems to be an expert and think it’s black and white. I was just cringing at all the people that rushed to takes on both sides. The “right wing” takes are definitely far more cringy and abrasive.

I dont know why I still expect olympics/basketball discussions when I click this thread...
I’m done lol. Was out without service the last few days so catching up.

Schroeder is the GOAT and that’s the end of all basketball discussion.

So, err, looking at the wikipedia site of the Olympics tournament... how do they score those points?
Germany and France with 2-0 and 4 points, Japan with 0-3 and 3 points?
