Olympics Thread

That was huge.
So I was expecting a USA free throw from the foul and counting the bucket.

Instead the USA got a 6 point play right?

Anyone know what happened here?
Durant hit the three and they called a foul on Serbia and they counted the 3 by Durant and then gave USA the ball out of bounds and Booker hit a 3. Biggest sequence of the game imo.

Are the rules different in the Olympics than NBA or something? I figured the bucket would count and USA would get 1 free throw for a 4 point possession. Instead they got a 6 point possession.

The stage was set in the first 90 seconds of the fourth quarter. Captain LeMerica went in dad mode, was pounding the ball in transition. Rattled off three team fouls -- bang, bang, bang. Once they got Jokic his fourth foul, the team was scrambling. Before then, you could see that Serbia had their hearts in their throat the second Lebron was back in the 4th quarter.

America got within 5, 6, in the 3rd. -- that horrendous bench rotation nearly lost them the game. I don't think they win this game without Embiid, and Curry of course -- but when the moment got tough, the whole world knew who to look to.

Undisputed greatest of all time, there will never be another like him.

I bet there are a lot of LeBron haters, who also think of themselves as patriots, who are sad that USA won.

They were so excited to start hating on LeBron and "today's NBA players"

I think Durant is the best player in the world at getting a good look against any defense/defender.

I was watching in the break room at work when the US needed a bucket at the end and was telling everyone they should go to Durant. He just casually rises up with that long body and long arms and easily sinks the long 2 like it's nothing.

I was pumped for this game. Felt almost like a jazz playoff game to me

There were. And it made me laugh.

How much would USA have had to be down by going into the 4th for you to think it was over? Insanely dumb for the haters to think it's only 13.

I think it would have to be 20 for me to really think no shot.

Shouldn't have counted at all IMO. The foul occured prior to the shooting motion. I guess the possession instead of foul is FIBA rules.

I thought it was over when they started the quarter down 13 with only 10 minute quarters and playing against the reigning MVP.... And I'm the opposite of a hater.

The US played fantastic in that 4th quarter though. Also had a 6 point play (pretty rare) and I think that over and back call when Durant hounded the Serbia ball handler might have been a bad call (on the replay it looked like the ball stayed on the Serbia side of the court to me). US won by 4.

Great 4th quarter

You thought it was over, no shot, or you thought it looked bad but there was still possibly hope?

Are challenges allowed in the Olympics? If so, were any used on this game?

Idk Durant was missing all kids of **** in the first half. The issue with the end-of-game possessions was that guarding the US was a ****ing disaster. Best guard on Curry, Physical forward on Lebron, Jokic on Embiid -- and then you still have Booker and Durant to worry about. Lebron waited for KD to set the screen because he knew it'd be BBQ chicken.

To KD's credit he stayed composed and found his shot again as the game went on. We've seen him hit those late game shots time and time again in his career -- you can always trust him to annihilate a mismatch. I think a Lebron drive would have also led to either FTs or a dump-off, but Lebron knew that KD iso up top would probably curtains up the game.

It was really remarkable watching how much more organized the team felt when Lebron touched the ball. The only out of sorts play in the 4th quarter I remember was Embiid trying to get Jokic his 5th and he turned it over. Lebron had his hands on the ball every single other possession for the rest of the game.

It's just unbelievable to see him play this way at 39 years of age. I have never seen anything like it, an athlete somehow not falling too far from his prime. He has overall been the most important player on this olympic team, how insane is this. Idc if ppl say I'm glazing him -- to just be neutral and watch him play like this, we are all going to miss him when he's gone.

My exact post was "I dont think they can come back from this"

My feeling was that they were going to lose the game and had very little chance at winning. Not impossible but very little chance. I remember telling the guy sitting next to me that they would have to play pretty much perfect. And other than not getting some defensive rebounds they pretty much did. And still needed some calls to go their way and needed Serbia to miss open threes and jokic to miss an easy bucket on a big time mismatch.

But they were incredible. Just too many all time greats out there at the end.

Ya LeBron should always have his hands on the steering wheel.

My Durant comment was about his ability to get a clean look against anyone at any time. Not that they always go in. The length, elevation, quickness, high release, and smooth stroke is impossible to defend. Just have to hope he misses.
