What's new

Omg I am tired of watching diaw

I'd never get tired of watching Diaw, no matter how crap he is. Some sort of warm fuzzy feeling watching a fat guy play while doing weird spin moves to get into the paint.

Teams have to respect jones's shooting and not beg him to shoot like diaw.

Terrence Jones is shooting 25% from 3, Diaw is shooting 26%. He's a better rebounder and scorer, but not a better shooter.

edit: I'm all for grabbing Terrence Jones, but people have to know what they're going to be getting, and it's not shooting that is better than Diaw's.

I'm interested.. What do people like about Jones? Is it casually watching highlight reels or name recognition or have people sat down and watched some of his Pelican games?

I'd love to think that we were going after either Bogut or Jones to shore up our front line. Bogut would be my first choice, because of his pedigree, his experience and the Aussie connection. But if Bogut is not interested in playing here, I'd definitely take my chances with Jones who has played mostly the four but also some five. People may forget the 2013/14 season where Jones was averaging 12 pts and seven boards as the starting power forward on the Rockets. Had he not gotten in a terrible accident and suffered a collapsed lung he may still be playing for them. It's not fair or accurate to say that he can't still play because he's proven this season on a few occasions when AD has been hurt what he's capable of.

Aside from the minimum salary floor issue, either one of these guys would provide insurance for Favors, both in the case of limiting his minutes and in case he goes out with injury again before the playoffs. People know where I stand with Withey but I admit Diaw has also been a big disappointment from my perspective. Then you've got Johnson who along with Diaw can't jump or guard anybody, Lyles who's slumping and also doesn't play D and Bolomboy who's undersized and totally inexperienced. Seems like a no-brainer to me.

I like Diaw BUT he has to learn his limitations.

That fall away jumper of his is ALWAYS going to hit the front of the rim. He never hits it but it tries it a couple of times a game.

Just know what you can do and what you cannot do.

He was about to get 3 in the key, had to shoot it.

I used to be okay with Diaw, because he could do some positive things, but lately I cringe when I see him hit the floor because I fear for the building's structural integrity, I mean, because his negatives outweigh his positives. While he's a smart player who makes good passes, and sometimes scores inside with his dancing elephant moves, teams don't even pretend to guard him on the perimeter, and he's a liability on defence and on the boards. The fact he gets court time over Lyles just shows how badly Lyles has been playing. And as I've said before, the problem with both of them is that neither can guard a 4 with genuine size, so players like Griffin and Z-Bo (both potential first-round playoff opponents) will kill us whenever we don't have both Gobert and Favors on the floor. JJ isn't the answer here either, but at least he can make buckets.

Bogut would partially help us by backing up Gobert and allowing us to play Favors at the 4 for all of his minutes, instead of having to split them between the 4 and backup 5. As for Jones, he's the type of player we need in that he is a big-4 who can also play 5, and can therefore backup both Gobert and Favors. We don't need a great player, just someone who has enough game to keep a defender occupied, and who can defend and rebound. But I would rather cut Mack than Diaw to bring either of them in.

There's a lot to like about Jones, he's 25, versatile, productive, underpaid and has been thru a smattering if injuries and has returned triumphantly.

He's strong and a force on the o-boards and impacts many areas of the game most importantly he's damn athletic which is something Utah's been lacking at the PF spot.

check the highlight of him blocking LeBrons dunk I posted in the T Jones thread.

There's more to it with Jones. Evidently there were recent off the court issues that played a part in him being cut. I can't imagine the Jazz bringing in anybody that would mess with team chemistry or cause any drama. Sounds cliche, but character does matter.

He is someone who really wants minutes to prove himself. He isn't in danger of falling out of the nba, but I doubt he gets much more than the minimum. So yeah, doubt he comes to a team where his minutes upside might be 10 a game at most.
