Omnibus Gordon Hayward Thread (To clean up the Board some)

As someone else said..... he has been to each of these cities numerous times already. Because he is an nba player he travels alot in his line of work

He's stayed in hotels and has never met with their coach or GM. C'mon, I've traveled on business to MANY cities in the U.S. including Boston, San Francisco, New York, LA, Phoenix, Minneapolis, etc. Until I actually decided to move to the Los Angeles area, I had no idea of where I'd consider living/not living in the metro area, cost of housing/living, etc. And the same holds true for most of the other cities, although I'm from Northern CA, so I have a pretty decent familiarity with San Francisco (or used to).

Honest question: Why does Hayward need so much money for?

He flies coach, eats at Olive Garden, and drives a simple midsize economy car. The guy is a tightwad...he doesn't like spending money obviously, so I don't understand the over the top desperation/greed? For $10M/year, he can buy a whole fleet of Honda Accords and eat at Olive Garden and Subway 365 days a year...
So he can feel super comfy taking those long drives to Olive Garden and can buy the most expensive meal on the menu 365 days a year.

So, purely out of curiosity, if several firms in different cities were recruiting you, each offering a high salary but a different work environment, you would not take the time to visit each firm and each city before making an informed decision where you wanted to work?

Poor example. He is working in Utah regardless so there is that.

His shenanigans are LOL. Look at me the HAYGOD! I get tour!!!

Obviously you would want to go to superb management situations (cleveland and charlotte lololololol) right
And Utah was better last year?
1. Charlotte turned their defense completely around. Cho is a solid GM who brought in a good coach in Cleveland. Their starting lineup is solid and would be bolstered by the addition of Hayward. They finished 43-39 last season (18 games better than Utah) and made the playoffs. They added Vonleh in the draft. What's NOT to like about Charlotte?

2. Cleveland. Ok, it sucks as a city from what I've heard. But you only have to work there. During the summer, you can live anywhere else. And that team? Good heavens...look at the talent: Add Hayward to Irving and Wiggins. WOW! And solid supporting players like Thompson and Varejao. Shouldn't be too hard to improve by 10-15 games, and then build from there if Wiggins is the real deal.

Today I feel impatient and snarky. I hope Charlotte does sign him to the max ..oops, sorry I meant MAX, just so this whole love me tour drama can end. I don't want Hayward distracting us from more important things, like free at shirts at the free open scrimmage.

Is he? We've only heard rumors the Jazz have promised to match any deal. What if he DIDN'T visit any cities and Lindsey put a 4/$32M offer on the table? Should he just accept that?
Matthews and Millsap went out an visited cities as RFA's. The only reason this is getting such attention is because a few cities are going all out (banners) to make him feel welcome. Hayward isn't out there demanding all that attention. He's doing his due diligence and trying to get paid the most he can. How many resumes and interviews do you usually go on before you get a job? Granted, in this economy many have had a tough time so they're just hoping for ONE offer. I like where I'm working now, but I'm underpaid, I do have some loyalty (I'm thankful they offered me a job). But that doesn't mean I haven't listened to recruiters who have contacted me about other companies.

Ya you convinced me.
Charlotte and cleveland are top notch franchises that other teams should model themselves after.

I find it interesting that so far none of the good teams or excellent franchises have been chasing hayward really hard.

Maybe that means something...... maybe not

probably means the top echelon teams dont have $12-15M free to spend

I will bet anything that he ends up in Utah. He is not going anywhere and that is certain.

Miami does, LAL do, Chicago can find room for Anthony, Boston did--they used it elsewhere, San Antonio could have passed on Diaw and others-they didn't. Houston made room to proposition Anthony and Bosh. Dallas had room for Anthony, OKC is courting Gasol and will have to find cap space. I read Clippers were looking to upgrade sf and shooting and talked about moving Reddick and others to get space for Deng or Pierce...no mention of Hayward.

I don't know how famous he is to the rest of the league, I'm sure he is the most famous player of the Jazz, but I'm pretty sure that the Jazz left him open for FA at the beginning of the last season so that they could see how he will take the responsibility and I can tell that the FO wants him in SLC as they probably think he definitely did not underachieve last season. Shooting sucked I know. But Hayward did not turn into a bust and put up really concrete stats and contribution up there. Especially considering how bad the Jazz performed on both ends of the floor and struggled in scoring. The FO understands both of them are young and will only get better and Hayward is no exception. I think they want him. And they will try to keep him alongside adding a solid FA to the roster. No more tanking.

And, don't forget, your boss has said, publicly, that he'll match any offer.
