How did ny get melo?
And why couldn't a $12M/yr Hayward be traded along with filler for a true max superstar?I don't really care if Hayward stays or goes, but some y'all (pointing at you, GVC) need to realize that overpaying players is a utility. Teams like the Lakers use it well while everyone else ignores the advantages. A $10,000,000 Parsons can be traded for a $15,000,000 player. A $17,000,000 Hayward can be traded for a true max superstar.
Exactly. Not some overpaid average player on a max contractThrew in guys like Burks as salary filler.
I know if i were okc and looking to trade durant i would think:And why couldn't a $12M/yr Hayward be traded along with filler for a true max superstar?
The Jazz will not match. Remember my little visit with Jerry Sloan? Not to sound like a tool, but I suddenly find myself with a very good "insider" (not Jerry, duh) who is more than willing to share their info.
Quote this and tell me I'm an idiot, or whatever, but you heard it here first: DL put the bait out there, MJ took it, and now all is well. We will not match Hayward.
Just thought you'd all like to know.

A fun story. But why wouldn't DL simply try to work a trade earlier on if he knew Gtime was history? What's in it for Utah if he gets paid by Charlotte?

1. The Jazz have not historically been a team that could consistently go way into LT territory. The Lakers, Blazers, Nets, Knicks, Mavs, etc. are in a different league in terms of the potential damage of acquiring/signing players for way above their on-court value.I don't really care if Hayward stays or goes, but some y'all (pointing at you, GVC) need to realize that overpaying players is a utility. pretty sure you are trollingHayward is considered a top 50 player in the league. Such hyperbole...
2. With contracts capped at 4 or 5 years, why would a team trade a true superstar for a wildly overpaid role player? Precedent?
Well said.Meh, not reading through all of this. Sorry if the points have been made.
I think that we have a very comparable player in Burks, so the marginal utility value of Hayward to us is not worth a max contract. We are going to move toward two talented point guards and a pick and roll game which puts Hayward on the wing waiting to shoot a 3. He can do that and do it well. That job is not worth a max contract. I'm not convinced Hood can't do that for us.
He can initiate the offense which sets him apart. We don't need him to do that.
I wonder if the jazz can finagle a sign and trade that gets rid of that trade kicker, which I don't suppose the Hornets really want either. That 4th year player option is useless as Hayward isn't going to get more than 18 million that the 4th year will give him. I doubt we can get much because the Hornets want Hayward to pair with MKG.
I just don't see a reason to keep him at that contract. I mean sometime you have to bite the bullet and overpay on potential, but I think Hayward is the one guy that we actually know enough to judge and he isn't valuable at that salary to us. He's a difference maker in the East. Here, not so much. . .
If we don't match, I want Marvin Williams back though.
