Only 4 of 29 ESPN writers say Gobert is DPOY

I get why people vote for Green. He is the only player in the NBA who can literally guard anyone and lock-down a guy in crunch time. He has more highlight defensive plays, especially ones that were basically the defensive equivalent to hitting a buzzer beater. Combine that with how popular they are among writers, always being on TV and focused on since that's what people want to read about, they see him more. And the whole next up thing.

Yeah for sure. We like Rudy because of the hometown bias, but the truth is that this is a super tight race between him and Dede. It is really great that we have one of, if not the best defenders in the league.

I would rather have Rudy at this point on my team for a couple reasons; first being that Rudy is not as big of a distraction to the team (he doesn't touch other players balls), and second because Rudy is younger. Green is a GREAT defender though, and very deserving of the award, and that is not taking anything away from Rudy. Rudy should win, but so should Green.

Aren't the Jazz like one of the best teams at defending the three? I know they allow the least corner threes in the league.

Golden State allows the lowest 3pt% by a pretty decent margin.

Utah allows the least 3pt attempts, basically tied with SAS and Miami.

Does he get an actual vote? I was thinking of that when I saw it. He has such an allegiance to Boston I would think he wouldn't want Hayward to get the extra money. Or maybe he doesnt want Hayward and he wants him to stay in Utah. Or maybe he is just an ethical voter.
Yea real vote. The exact question came up on his last podcast. He believes in karma and said that he doesn't believe in voting against his heart to potentially help Boston. Was basically offended that someone would suggest it. He could easily get away with voting for Butler, so yea, I'd just say ethical voter.

Why do people keep saying this? He can't lock down all 5 positions and he doesn't. The Warriors play centers off of the court with their offense.

Seriously? Against the Blazers is he going to be shutting down Lillard? McCullum? Nurkic?

No!

if you're being perfectly honest he won't even guard them that much.

He's not even the best f****** defender on his team. Green is great within that system. He's pretty damn good again stretch fours and has great instincts as a free safety, but he's not a guy that can lock down all 5 positions. Honestly he really can't even gaurd all 5 positions.

Can you read? Did I say he could shutdown a player? I said he can lock a guy down in crunch time, not an entire game.

Unless you are saying that DG is still the hands down single most overrated player in the NBA then we will not be able to form a consensus.

That's really not enough to base giving him an award for... they have the highest point differential in the league the last two years... not in a lot of close games where they need a lock down guy in crunch time.

He's an amazing help defender... great anticipation. The consensus is more because people feel he's been doing it longer... like he may have gotten shafted last year. It's not about versatility... it's really more exposure and more familiarity because people have "take note" on green for longer.

Rudy Gobert is like Liam Neason in Taken... he will find you and he will kill you to get back what belongs to him.

People have different opinions. People value what he does more obviously. Smart NBA minds I respect voted for him, like Zach Lowe and Kevin Pelton.

When you dawn a Utah Jazz jersey you must embrace that the odds will be against you. Small market, the refs and no love from the league. Green should win the award for most groin kicks not dpoy

Rudy is getting love from all over. And as long as the Jazz win games they get plenty of recognition. The reality is, players are more likely to win DPOY after they have been on the 1st team. Rudy will get his and this will fuel the fire.

But being in a bigger market helps more, that's all some of us are trying to say on here.
