Well, I guess the religion itself recognizes Jesus as a great prophet. But I'm not up to speed on what role the bad guys think he plays. I have looked at ISIS up to this point as a grab for power. The creation of a caliphate. Recreate an Islamic empire of some sort. That article I posted was the first I've come across an effort to describe the power grab in terms of a greater prophesy. And if that greater prophesy has Jesus leading them to victory, well that's part of an insane belief system I guess. After watching Frontline's ISIS in Afghanistan, I'm more then ever convinced they are insane. I did not grow up in the same faith these guys did. But, overall, it is one of the three major faiths stemming from the same region and same wandering desert nomads thousands of years ago. And all three of the faiths that originated there seem to have spokesmen that seem insane to me.
I'm reminded of the American "preacher" who claimed the Paris attacks were God's way of punishing the sinful French. Is that not as sick as it gets? In the instance of that "minister", he was really aligning himself with the terrorists. For the terrorists, Allah demanded they kill infidels. And to that American minister, his God approved of the Paris attacks. To the terrorists of IS and this American minister, somehow their respective faiths are fine with slaughtering innocent human beings. This Abrahamic tradition, or whatever you want to call it, has unleashed violence and harm throughout history. The Crusades. How the heck insane was that? The religious wars of the 16th and 17th centuries. Pitting Catholic against Protestant. A loving God? Way too often the adherents of those faiths seem far fonder of hate then they are love. How many millions of human beings have been slaughtered throughout history at the hands of other human beings acting according to what they think God wants and expects of them? If I were from another planet, observing the Earth and human society over time, I would conclude that humans were a deeply flawed species. Watching from orbit as people slaughtered people in large numbers here and there around the globe, I'd conclude "well, this didn't work out well at all. This is a failed species of "intelligent" life".
