I'm trying to read the tea leaves here and see what this potential inquiry means for all the other moving pieces - especially since you know the Jazz have been talking to Hayward and Hill and have a pretty good idea of where things stand.

Scenario 1a) The Jazz know that Hayward and Hill will resign if we get another major piece - Love, George, etc. In order to get one of those players, they're going to have to trade away some combination of picks, Favors, Hood, and Exum. Acquiring Beverly replaces either Exum or Hood on a cheap contract that will allow the Jazz to fit in the salaries of Hayward, Hill, and another big piece.

Scenario 1b) The Jazz know that Hayward will resign if we get another major piece like Love or George, but it can't be done while also meeting Hill's salary demands. They bring in Beverly and have Beverly and Exum fight over the PG minutes, trade a package of Hood + picks for someone like George, or Favors + picks for Love.

Scenario 2) The Jazz know that Hill is leaving and are doing anything possible to convince Hayward to stay, and Beverly is one of the few options available where they think they can stem the bleeding.

Scenario 3) The Jazz know that both Hayward and Hill are leaving but want to provide Gobert with a competent floor general in order to keep him happy while they figure out how to restructure around him.

Interestingly, I think scenario 3 is the LEAST likely here because knowledge that both Hayward and Hill are leaving means that it's going to be a long road back to competitiveness and it's important to try to strike gold in the draft rather than give them up for someone who doesn't truly move the needle on the team.

I think this is a sign that they're working on something involving Hood, Exum or both, and they're either convinced Hayward is going to stay or is close to staying, as long as they can improve the team with another borderline or actual All Star. Beverly is not that person - he's a facilitator to make the math work.

Any other scenarios I might be missing?

Pretty comprehensive.

If we are willing to trade #12 for one year of Hill, why wouldn't we trade #24 or #30 for two years of Beverley and maybe a year of Lou Williams too?

If it was #42 and space then go for it. I think if you have Beverly you can tell Hayward we are re-signing Hill too, but if that doesn't work we have Bev. We could flip Bev or use him off the bench I suppose.

Could also play both Hill and Bev... good value add at #42. Won't do 30 doe. If they want to throw in Harrell then I'd do maybe the OKC pick.

One other note from Tony Jones' story. "Dennis Lindsey is actively shopping for a veteran PG."

That says something about either Hill's willingness to resign, DL's interest in using Hill's salary space for another major player (which would assume Hayward is returning), or Exum being included in a trade (which would assume both Hayward and Hill returning.)

Fascinating.

I might consider #30, but I'd probably want Lou Williams too. Lou averaged 17ppg this year.

I would be totally okay if us sending our 2nd rd picks and cash or player. This draft has a lot of good players, I don't want us to give up our 1st rd picks too easily.

Yep. I think this is a clear sign that Hill is gone. Not so sure about Exum.

I'm sorry to disappoint you guys but Beverley on this contract can easily get a first.

What in the **** is going on!? I can't take this anymore! DL plz text me!

Look at Lou Williams' PER and stats this year. He's an upgrade over Hood in many ways. And he's only 30. http://www.espn.com/nba/player/_/id/2799

Beverley is a good, defensive PG making next to nothing.

If we can add both of these guys for #30 without having to give up an asset, what a damn good trade.

I think mle is more like 8 or 8.5 million, and I think that's about what Teo will sign for.

I'm just going off of Larry Coon's numbers. If someone has a link to info otherwise, it would be greatly appreciated.

I don't love this on its own, but the Jazz are in a tough spot. Everything would have been better if Hill had just signed the extension. He's probably going to get the same or less money on the open market with all the PG trade movement.

I hope that this is somehow part of a plan that includes picking up a great player at another position other than PG. If that is the case then I think this is an ideal guy who can start, add some toughness, and compete with Exum (should he still be around) for a spot as Exum matures. That has kind of been my #1 option for the offseason if the Jazz can make it happen. I would hate this if Hill was back unless they traded a package including Exum for some other good piece or pick.

I don't like the idea of trading Exum so we can get Hill AND Beverley. Seems counter productive to me.

I could see us targeting Lou Williams and Beverley so Houston can create cap space. I think we would have to use #30 and either #42 or #55 to make this trade happen.

Then we can trade Favors, Hood, Lyles, Diaw's non-guaranteed, #24, and maybe a pick from next year. Without all of those guys (very unrealistic), we still have a good core roster except for PF:

PG Beverley, Exum, Neto
SG Williams, Burks
SF Hayward, JoeJ
PF Bolomboy
C Gobert

Yep. I think this is a clear sign that Hill is gone. Not so sure about Exum.

I think all it really says is that they don't know for sure he'll be back, in which case he wouldn't be doing his job if he wasn't preparing for the worst.

Trading Exum makes no sense. The value he has for the Jazz is so much higher than what they could get for him in return.

I'd also keep Hood for similar reasons and try to move off Burks contract (to the Hawks maybe?). I don't see any reason to trade Favors or Lyles as well unless you are getting players that are better than them which is unrealistic.
