What's new

Patrick Patterson

I would be shocked if Monroe was gone and the Jazz passed on Patterson. He has all the Jazz requirements:

1. IQ off the charts
2. Ability to speak in paragraphs
3. NBA ready body
4. Down plays his ego
5. Slips in "working hard" every 3 sentences or so
6. Position of need
7. Ability to draft the next best thing to a white guy that can play is a black guy that can play with a name right out of the Irish suburbs.

Assuming they are not high on Aldridge. I am not sure why Cole is a bad pick at 9.

Does he own a John Deere?

The Reason that the Jazz are not high on Patterson is that they already have him. His name is Paul Millsap. Both the same size. (undersized that is) and both do the same things. We need a Center or a big PF.

I LOVE Patterson (PPat) and he will be very good. Though not necessarily a need ...

And I am a HUUUUUUGE (biggest) Kentucky fan.

I made it known I like Patterson, both on the old server (before it crashed) and on here. He's the safest pick - he can step in and contribute now, has a high BK I.Q., and is good at a lot of things. And to claim he's not a competant defender is retarded - I watched him quite a bit and he's not a bad defender by any means. I would rather draft a guy who proved himself for three years than some risk that could very well not pan out (thank goodness Whiteside has dropped and people have stopped talking about him). If we draft somebody like Babbit over Patterson, I'm going to scream in anguish.

His name is Pat Patterson for hell sakes. That's a bad sign if you ask me. That's like naming a son Mike or Greg.

Well ... MY name is Patrick .. and I can confirm the latter.

Predraft Measurements From top to bottom P Patterson, P Millsap, E Davis,
Height w/o Shoes Height w/shoes Weight Wingspan Standing Reach Body Fat
6' 8" .......................6' 9.25" ..........240 ...7' 1.25" ............8' 11" ........5.3
6' 6.25"....................6' 7.25" ..........258 ...7' 1.5" ............8' 9.5" ........9.7
6' 9"........................6' 9.75" ..........227 ...7' 0" ................9' 0" ........10.0

No Step Vert Max Vert Bench Press Lane Agility 3/4 Court Sprint Class Rank
28.5 ................33.5 .........17 ..............11.14 ........3.25 ...............NA
28.5 ................32.5 .........15 ..............11.67 ........3.30 ...............38
31.0 ................36.0 .........NA ..............11.70 ........3.21 ...............NA

Coal Aldrich .........6 9" 6 11".....and standing reach is 9' 3" (max vert 28)
Lamarcus Aldridge 6 10" 6 11......and standing reach is 9' 3
Luke Babbit ..........6 7.5 6 9"......and standing reach is 8 8.75 (37.5 vertical)
Has.. Thabeet................7 2.......and standing reach is 9' 5"
Andrew Bogut................7 0.......and standing reach is 9' 3"
Udoh.............................6 9.......and standing reach is 8 10.5" (but wing span is 7 4"...)
G. Monroe.....................6 11......and standing reach is 9 0.5 (lane agility 12.3 max vert is 29)

So looking at some of these measurements we can conclude:
1. Patterson and Milsap are quite similar
2. Ed Davis appears similar but has 3" in standing reach and 4" in jump over Milsap...
3. Aldrich wears tall shoes
4. Udoh has a long neck
5. G Monroe is 6 11" but probably will play shorter (see reach, agility, -6" on leap compared to Davis)

Who is the best rebounder listed in this post? Could be Millsap... inspite of his size.

I would venture that standing reach is a better indicator of "clogging the middle" and reach+max vertical is a better indicator of your offensive physical ability.

Looking at physicals alone:
If you want a best chance for decent offense, Journeyman, Lane clogger - go with Aldrich
If you want best chance for "plays long" weak side blocks and has skills to excell offensively - Ed Davis

Add in the intangibles - work ethic, maturity, bigger body, with high likelihood of Millsap or better player, then probably patterson.

I've not see Monroe play so i'm not sure the excitement for him. Anybody recall who gets 'great' rebounder as attribute among this set of guys?

Chew on dat I tellz ya. (Practicin' in case i hafta type mo stuff for Hopper)

First time I try listening to KFan since the end of the season, and it's bascially turned into a Patrick Patterson-love fest.

David Locke says worst-case he's Paul Millsap.
Best-case he says a cross between Al Jefferson and Al Horford. :o

Hopefully he won't quit his day-job of being a mediocre radio guy.

I got the impression that Locke was interested in him a few days back and haven't been back to the radio since (just a matter of schedule) So it appears he onto Patterson. Therefore
1. The Jazz are darfting PP becuase Locke is an insider
2. The Jazz are not darfting PP becuase Locke is being used as the smoke screen tool
3. The Jazz are using Locke as a fishing tool to see how many people call up and ask "so you're goin' for PP?
4. The Jazz and Locke don't talk on this subject so Locke is just picking a guy to stir up radio

I'm guessing 5, but maybe the Jazz are craftier than that.
