Paul Ryan thinks you're a ****ing retard

You're telling me it isn't?? I think Ryan should have been absolutely lambasted for his speech. But no matter how bad it is, you'll have Fox News telling their viewers (like Millsapa/PearlWatson) that it was a speech for the ages, and MSNBC saying he's the worst thing since Joseph Goebbels.

Also, keep in mind that 'this guy from the Edmonton Journal' is actually....

He knows his stuff. FWIW, the National Post is the more right-leaning Canadian national newspaper, whereas the Globe and Mail is more left. Coyne is quite respected, from what I know.

Some probably isn't, some probably is in this case. I mean, Ryan's dishonesties were so blatant in this case, you really think that the press, including the 'liberal press' wasn't going to call him on it? The fact that criticism might come from leftward leaning members of the press doesn't make the criticism any less valid, although it does make it easy for those on the right to dismiss it, conveniently. Plus, let's add the fact that some of the criticism WAS coming from the right leaning press in this case, including the article cited in the OP from Fox News no less.

God, I get tired of these partisan games.

For what it's worth, here's an example of what I would call a 'harmless lie": https://nbcpolitics.nbcnews.com/_ne...ul-ryan-says-he-misstated-marathon-claim?lite.

Any huffing and puffing from the left on this one is, I think, making a mountain of a molehill. A very different category of mistruths than those uttered by Ryan during his convention speech.

FWIW, I've learned that the FOX writer was recently hired as a token liberal, and her opinion pieces are, apparently, always buried.

The tards at the "base" of the republican party have been trained for years now to have a deep distrust of the "liberal" media, so the republican party is buffered from fact checkers to an alarming degree. That's why they don't mind trotting Ryan and Dirty Harry out there to spew **** on top of ****.

Well that's kind of disappointing. I thought that maybe Fox had displayed a rare moment of Editorial objectivity.

My tea bagger family is always ragging on the biases of the liberal press, but eats up anything Fox news dishes out with gusto. It is clear that they have no principled objection to media bias, but only convenient objection to liberal media bias (mainstream media, not counting MSNBC, might have a liberal bias but it is in no way as obvious and unabashed as the right wing bias of Fox News). And to forestall the predictable opposition, those on the left can be just as inconsistent in condemning right wing press bias but excusing left wing press bias.

Humans being human are not capable of being totally objective about much of anything; it's a matter of degree.

I've been gone for a couple of days. . . . too much in here to read it all.

Here's the basic problem. We should just ditch the party system. The party system makes us partisan dolts. Instead of dealing with the truth. . . .

The worst of it is, in my view, the way both "Parties" are merely the lefthand and righthand puppets waved at us in the little puppet show. I can't believe our media/press can even take a side.

I don't like government very much, I want less of it. With less power, the morons who want the power will become fewer, and maybe less stupid. If you can reduce the power to near zero, maybe you will get public servants and statesmen taking the field once again and just trying to do what's right.

I'm going with the R this time, simply because Obama is a stupid ideologue too stuck on his causes. Blind to reality. Now I would say the same thing about a lot of R's, especially the middleroaders who devoutly believe in standing for nothing.
