Players bound for a big leap next year

Not directly related but we have our first muscle watch of the offseason. Crime Tony Jones in his article today.

“What that’s meant in the last two months has been relentlessly spending time in the weight room, which has resulted in 15 additional pounds on Kessler’s frame.”

It’s never 5 or 10… always 15… and it always makes me laugh.

Who’s working with Hornacek on their jumper this year? Is it THT?

After gaining own experience and knowledge on weight training, I actually do think NBA sized humans can gain 15 pounds in an offseason quite easily. Or at least be 15 pounds heavier one day than they were done other day before. But realistically only a few pounds of muscle at best and there’s a good chance they lose it during the season anyways.

At their size, 5-10 pounds could be a day to day fluctuation in weight.

“Big leap” suggests to me that they are already in the NBA, so I don’t count rookies.

I don’t think there is much evidence to suggest that Kessler is suddenly gonna become a seriously skilled offensive force which is where he would have the most headroom to make a leap. I guess if he becomes legit all-defensive 1st team/DPOY candidate.

Ochai doesn’t impress me much generally and his summer league showing was disappointing even to me.

Lauri doesn’t have much headroom from last season. He will be an MVP candidate if he has a big leap. I don’t see that.

Sexton has already made something of a splash in terms of individual production. If him getting back to 24ppg counts as a big leap then maybe him I guess? I just don’t think resurgence is what people think about in this context.

THT might be the best candidate since he has a lot of headroom and a lot of talent.
I think you are being too rigorous about the term in the heading, since the OP question is clearly more about "risers and fallers".

Its like clickbait. The better convo is about who will improve and who will fall off.

Also in that same article:

"Hardy tells The Athletic he will allow Kessler to shoot 3-pointers next season, on a trial run, of course."

I mean of course you can gain 15-20 lbs in an offseason. Zion does more than double that every offseason.

It is just always funny to me that they state he's gained 15 lbs of muscle... in a couple months its impossible. I get what they are saying though is that he's gained 15 lbs and its good weight. I would guess almost every player gains like 7-8 lbs in just water, glycogen, and other tissue from not having to endure the grind of an nba season. Hell if I am playing pickup 3x a week I can weigh myself monday and be like 7 lbs heavier than on Friday at the end of the week after ball... it isn't cuz i lost 7 lbs of fat.

Its just funny that its always 15... because 14 is too little and 16 would be preposterous.

Hell, I can gain 15 pounds in a weekend.

Out of all the media BS out there, I think saying round numbers is probably the least annoying. Seems like the most normal thing ever. Especially because it could change from 14-16 in one meal.

Out of all the dudes on JFC, I think we all guessed that you were the most jacked. Now that you've weighed in on this issue, I hope HH stops laughing forever.

insert 5, 10, or 20... its always 15 that gets reported... its for fun but lets throw some urine soaked wet blankets on the fun.

cancel muscle watch szn.

My bad, I didn't know it was so funny when people talk in round numbers. I thought the funny part is that these numbers are meaningless to begin with, but I didn't know that saying a round number is hysterical. Guess I'm too old for those jokes.

15 lbs of muscle just makes sense. You probably lose on 5-10 lbs of muscle/body fat during the season, so you're just adding back what you lost (quick through muscle memory) then adding a bit on top of that.

The easy choice for this is Sexton if he stays healthy and is the starting PG. I could see him averaging 20/7/2 on really good efficiency from the field.
