For our main players (Gobert, Favors, Hayward, Hood, Burks, Burke and Exum) what do you want them focusing on this off season? What should the coaches tell them?

Gobert: Hand strength, core/leg weight gain of about 10-15lbs, that hook and a J out to the FT line

Favors: mid-range game, passing drills, aggression

Hayward: handles (TOs), shooting drills to reduce up and down games scoring wise

Hood: how to pull up from a drive before you run over the defender, 3s

Burks: continue rehabing, 3s and pull up Js

Burke: continue working on that floater, 3s, shooting!!!!

Exum: shooting!, aggression. conditioning, strength and weight gain

Team: Free Throws!!!!!!!! be at P3 as a group for at least three straight weeks

For Rudy, I'd add finishing at the rim off the dribble. In the early part of last night's game he drove a couple of times and missed pretty badly.

The FTs are a good one Stoked. The Jazz are 13th in the league in FTAs but just 26th in FT%. For a team that plays slow with limited scoring opportunities, hitting FTs at a higher rate is a must.

Exum - He is so raw offensively he needs to focus on really improving a couple main things this offseason - 3 point shooting and finishing on drives (scoring within 5 feet). Exum has elite quickness, but cannot utilize that gift because he cannot score after he beats his man. He needs to work on floaters, layups, finishing with contact, scoring over the bigs, and taking it strong to the hoop. He needs to get out of the habit of driving to the baseline. He does it at least 5 times a game and it drives me nuts. It limits his options and gives the defense an extra defender. Along with that he needs to improve his 3 point shooting. If he can shoot 37-40% from 3 AND be a threat to score on the drive I will be stoked with his development. He has a LONG way to go offensively and will need 3 or 4 offseasons to develop a full offensive repertoire. Desired Stat Line: 8 pts, 3 rbs, and 6 ast

Gobert - I think Gobert's offseason plan has to be get stronger (10-15 pounds of muscle) and extend his range out to the free throw line. He has great form for a big man on his free throws, so it is reasonable to expect him to be able to hit a 10 to 15 footer consistently. This will create better spacing when he and Favors are on the floor together. Desired Stat Line: 10 pts, 14 rbs, and 3 blk

Hood - Hood has been a pleasant surprise this season. He already has such an advanced offensive game that I think just fine tuning every aspect is all he needs. I can't think of the last Jazz rookie I have felt that way about, he could be special. I'd like to see him up his fg% to 45% and his 3pt% to 40%. This means better shot selection and continued work on his shot. I'd also like him to get that foot healthy and get his body ready to play a full season next year. Desired Stat Line: 13 pts, 3 rbs, and 3 ast

Burke - He needs to work on shooting and passing. His fg%'s are awful and needs to improve. He needs to work on that jumpshot and shoot a respectable % next year. I'd also like to see him learn how to be a pg and find the open man. He is always taking shots when there is a guy wide open for a 3 or cutting to the basket. If he can improve his court vision and be a willing passer I will be happy. Desired Stat Line: 12 pts, 3 rbs, and 5 ast - shooting at least 43%fg and 37% on 3's

Burks - Recover and work on his 3 pt shooting. Hayward, Burks, and Hood could be a very solid 3 man wing rotation. Maybe even add a lottery pick to the group and I am liking our wings right now. Desired Stat Line: 14 pts, 4 rbs, and 4 ast

Hayward - Like Hood, just work on improving every aspect on offense and be more effecient. He has a very solid all around game, but like Hood, 45%fg and 40% 3pt shoot be his goal. With Burks back, and with Exum, Burke, and Hood improving he won't have to shoulder the entire offensive load and should get some more open looks next year. Desired Stat Line: 20 pts, 5 rbs, and 4 ast

Favors - With Favors it's not a matter of what I want him to work on, but what I DON"T want him working on. I do not want him working on 3 point shooting, at all. He has become effective out to about 17 ft and I want him to continue to work on that. I want him to focus on developing go-to moves with his back to the basket and jumpshots. If we start having him hanging out around the 3 point line it will limit his effectiveness. I would prefer Gobert working on threes right now than Favors because Favors is so close to becoming a dominant offensive big man. He had 18 and 11 in 22 minutes last night. He needs to keep improving on what he is doing well right now. Desired Stat Line: 17 pts, 10 rbs, and 2 blk

Good post
My only criticism is that hood is already fantastic at driving at the hoop, stopping on a dime, and hitting the mid range J.

And Burks definitely needs to try to get stronger and work on defense. I think burks will bounce back fabulously on the offensive end of the court. He needs to be a better defender

Oh and exum basically needs to work on everything, including getting older.

Also for Rudy I would add not coming down with the ball when he gets it under the Rim. He did it last night and Quin immediately called him out for not just going straight up. I remember Kanter had that same problem a couple years back (maybe even last year) that he would rebound it and dribble instead of putting it right back.

FREE THROWS!

How many games have we lost by 2-6 points, and also missed 6-10 free throws in the same game? without looking at exact numbers, i'd add at lease 6 more wins to this season if we could collectively shoot better from the free throw line.

Guys remember that Gobert has played more minutes this year than about his whole pro career combined + he is going to play in the Euros with France and have a central role there. So sure we want him to improve but my first priority for him would be a vacation. Then focus on hook shot /10 ft shot and a on natural strengthening without pushing it too much.

The funniest thing about this thread is those who think it is possible to gain 15 pounds of muscle in 5 months. Experts put the maximum amount of muscle a highly trained individual can gain (defined as someone who's been working out for 5 years or more) at 0.5% of their body weight per month. So the very best he can do is about 6 pounds of muscle in the off-season. We're only talking about muscles here, of course. Most people gain non-muscle weight when they build muscles as well.

Blasphemy!

I want to see Exum add at least 25 lbs of muscle!

Fine, Gobert can add 5 lbs of muscle and 10 lbs of weight overall.

We can all agree that Gobert needs to get stronger. I'm also sure the Jazz trainers are well aware of this. They would also know more about the relative payoff of weight gain versus quickness and injury risk. Building muscle is a fairly easy thing for an athlete in the offseason, and can be predictably done with the correct exercise and nutrition regiment. So I trust the staff to do their job, and I'm not worried about it.

It would be more interesting to follow his skillset progress as that is more difficult to predict. Gobert needs an offensive go-to move, and I don't think a 10-footer is a top priority since it would not improve spacing all that much, specially given Favors range. It also doesn't really open things up for Gobert given his size and game. A hook shot would be great, along with improved (less clumsy) footwork around the basket.

I'm very happy with how the Jazz have developed this season so far.
Hood looks fantastic for a rookie. I was very, very excited when we drafted him, but even I didn't expect him to have these kinda games. I'd love for him to continue to work on staying healthy.

Favors looks so much more comfortable back at the PF position, I really want to see him work on his back to the basket moves. But I cannot state it enough with how stoked I am for how he looks, guy is a complete stud.
Really want to see Exum work on his strength and driving to the basket. Confidence too.

Burke needs to work on his jumper and fighting over screens.

Burks needs to focus mostly on getting healthy, then on defense and learning Snyders system. I'm an admitted Burks homer but he needs to improve in these two areas big time, but I think he can get it done.

Hayward has looked great, would love to see him be more consistent.

Gobert needs to work on his footwork and hand strength. But given how much he improved from last season to this one, he really could come up with an offensive game.

Again though, love how this team has improved this season. We look miles ahead of where we were last season.

Bench posture, cheer leading. Send him to work with Sacre.
