What's new

Players only meeting.

I assume you’re talking about me but have no idea where you are seeing pompous ***. It was a civil response to a very broad question.

Cops have never helped me once in my life. The majority of things they are called to ‘help’ with they either solve nothing or escalate the situation. I have never felt more safe or protected when a cop was nearby.

And I’m white!
They help and save lives every day. They maintain law and order and keep bad things from happening. When a car is stolen? A person raped? A person beaten? Intoxicated drivers taken off of the road? A wreck and they are the first responders? A child choking? A lost child? A stalker? A guy touching your daughter(not yours personally), andI could go on and on and on and on but who do you call? With all due respect (yes you've been civil) these guys and gals help you and others way more than you know.

Again do they need massive improvement and an overhaul of sorts? Sure but this pure hatred towards them is flat out disgusting imo. Maybe more would listen if there wasn't so much hate.

A little less than one officer is killed by a criminal per week. Do police not get to protect themselves? How much does this number jump once you defund them and give criminals the upper hand? Guys like The Rapist(not giving this guy the game) were supposedly going for a knife AFTER he was tased. What are police supposed to do? Let them grab the knife? What if it's a gun?

And before I get called childish names I'm all for reform but I really don't think people understand that cops are dealing with murderers, rapist, wife beaters, extremely violent people, baligerant, drugged out(Floyd with insane fentaynal numbers with super human strength)flat out lowlifes.

Again could we reform? Yes. But we also have to protect our police who do farore good than the bigoted haters want to get them credit for. They are literally putting their lives on the line daily. And yes, there are flat out bad cops too.
Just want to let you know that fetaynal doesn't give a person superhuman strength. Quite the opposite actually. Turned me into a docile vegetable that couldn't even stand up.

Agreed. So many people seem to just hate cops in general and thats completely wrong. Cops are like the rest of us. Some are good and some are bad. I think most are good. Lumping them all as bad is wrong.

To me, this says more about you than it does the cops.

Sure but it does cause shortness of breath and mixed with meth it sure does.
So who were you saying was displaying super human strength due to these drugs? Dude who was shot in the back simply opened a car door before being shot which doesn't require superhuman strength.
Floyd was held in place by a knee for almost 10 minutes. Someone with super human strength would probably be able to get out of that situation.

He overpowered multiple police and survived two taser shots. He then reached for an object in his car. Fish you know damn well that's a stupid thing to do. I will say I'm all for better training and less lethal answers but this dude brought it upon himself.

Chauvin is a murderous pig but there's more to the story about Floyd. He was completely hopped up, had covid, and a bad heart. He as well was resisting and 3-4 cops couldn't get him into the car. Does that mean he should have died? No. He was murdered and hopefully Chauvin pays even though legally I think first degree murder will be tough to prove.

Once again I'm all for extensive training so maybe these things don't escalate. That will be kind of hard to do while being defunded

This thread stopped being Jazz related, I don't know, 20 pages ago?

Could all the right wing fascists and left wing commies here be a little more civil? Probably too much to ask, I know.

This should remain in the Jazz forum.

@Jason

This is a thread that will wonder, but this is a subject that Jazz players are promoting ahead of their own play.

This story and subject are absolutely relevant to the NBA right now.

I love you Nate505. I do. I also appreciate some of your recent decisions. I think your moderating has made Jazzfanz better. I just think you're wrong on this one. It might be a 49/51 type thing, but I think you got this one wrong.

I get the argument you make. I am not here for a semantics battle. Who cares what you call it. It is not OK.

Most people are a minority in some phase of their lives. If you move to Colombia (as I did as a kid) and you are white, are you not the minority? If you are affiliated with a religion or creed or if you are homosexual... then are you not a minority in some circles and the majority in others? When I went to a mosque in Saudi Arabia around people I didn't know who didn't speak my language and people got mad and yelled 'Ameriqui!' at me... I felt like a minority. My gay friends go to a gay club in New York and they don't feel like the minority in the room, but others who are straight may. If you are a liberal at a Trump rally then you may temporarily feel like a minority in that crowd. In those situations, it is easy to belittle or overpower someone and it is easy to cross a line. In the NBA, white players are a situational form of minority. No doubt that is different than for our entire country as a whole and that our history cannot be ignored and the ongoing climate cannot be ignored.

Still, the minute that someone tries to subject another person through use of racially motivated comments, they are out of bounds. Call it what you will, I would call it an attempt to flex power over someone through the use of a racially motivated slur. Substitute the skin color and see how uncomfortable you are. It would have been an outrage and hence... it is not OK. If I am looking to create change, then I would take the high road. I would never encourage, defend, or support this behavior especially when I am telling others that they need to stop doing the same thing. That sentiment does not gain you much ground.

Harrel crossed a line. Don't cross it. Call it what you will... it doesn't help create change.
I live in China and understand what you're trying to say, but it's not the same. Stop trying to act like you are in the same boat. Those are very different scenarios. There is no such thing as reverse racism. What you are saying is a big part of the problem. You are diminishing others plights by trying to create an equivalence.

I do agree it's a stupid thing to do. Doesn't require superhuman strength though. Tasers often fail and cops are often out of shape, or old, or weak.

Floyd having covid, a bad heard, and fetanyl in his system certainly doesn't seem like the recipe for super human strength.

I understand the confusion but I meant the meth in his system did that. He had both. If you watch the body can you can clearly see he was doped out of his mind when police were trying to force him into the car and he was overpowering them being completely incoherent. That's not opioids.

Agree that it's relevant in today's environment, 100%. Don't want it to lose momentum as many are civil in the debate (some aren't). Stickied on GD for now and left a redirect in the Utah Jazz forum. If appropriate, can discuss moving it back but I think it will continue to get visibility here as well.

Thank you all for the discussion. I'm learning a lot.
