I'm not gonna dump on favors and blame the defensive failures on him. Paul is one of the top PGs in the league. He's easily the best player out there. We aren't going to shut him down. However, that doesn't mean we shouldn't re-analyze what we are doing on him. Why not give Exum some burn? He's long, like Jingles, but has greater close out speed and quickness. If we want to pest Paul, perhaps Raul should get some burn?
Also, Why not go underneath the screens? We seem to try to go over the top/fight through screens which leave to paul wrecking havoc inside.
Having said that...
The thing that concerns me the most isn't our defense, but our offense. How many other NBA teams could've beaten the Clippers tonight if their starting PF and C had given them merely 4 pts and 7 rbs??? Even Lebron had far more help when he was going nuclear the other night in game 3 as Thompson and Love gave him 22 pts and 16 rbs.
The lack of offensive production from our frontcourt is killing us. Thankfully in game 1, Favors had a good game and Joe was a miracle. But since then? We've gotten nothing. At this point, why the hell isn't Lyles playing over Diaw? What does Diaw do better than Lyles? Pass? But with Jingles we have enough passers in the starting lineup. We need scoring and athleticism. Why didn't whithey get any burn tonight? Especially when it was obvious that Favors was hurting and Diaw was as slow as ever.
If our offensive production from our PF/C doesn't improve drastically, it won't matter what positions 1-3 do or how good our defense is. That's what concerns me. Will gobert be a go in game 4? How diminished will he be? Can Lyles or Bolomboy be that energy guy to give us extra possessions, dunks, and offensive production? If gobert can't go on Sunday, Who is going to score for us from our 4-5? Is our only hope really that Joe turns back the clock to 2007?
