Predict the Rudy Gobert trade

I'm just glad that there is a Mike Conley trade chatter out there like other teams really want him. Cleveland and Washington already rumored. This article came out yesterday:

Conley had a terrible playoffs we all know that but let’s not pretend like the dude is a scrub. He has plenty of value to the right team. Also, we had to re-sign him or else we wouldn’t have gotten anything back for him. We didn’t have cap space.

I don't get the Cleveland thing... AT ALL. They have one of the best young PGs in the league. Why would they spend valuable assets on a player who will take the ball out of his hands and doesn't give them much defensively?

Valuable assets is not something they will be giving back. Most likely someone like LaVert.

Conley would be the best backup PG in the league which many of us have said before. He also is a consummate professional which can help all the young players there.

Yep. Rubio was really big for that team until he went down injured. I think they are looking for that type veteran presence off the bench.

They should just bring back Ricky or get a guy like Delon that can play along Garland. They need some on ball creation. I kind of hated the Caris trade for them… just don’t think he’s that good.

TJ and Chris K (athletic Atlanta writer) had a back and forth about Rudy trade. Seemed like TJ wants a bit too much back… finding a middle ground is possible there but I think Atlanta has pretty good flexibility to do deals so not sure they would respond well if we draw a hard line in negotiations.

TJ seems to think we wouldn’t take Capela back but I’m pretty sure we would.

What was TJ wanting that Chris didn't want to give?

Correct. If we don’t who we playing at Center. You can patch maybe 20 minutes a night with minimums or small ball… finding 48 minutes at center is ambitious. (Udoka may give you 15 minutes here and there but between conditioning injuries and general rawness we shouldn’t bank on anything there.)

TJ wants like Hunter, Collins, picks… it’s ambitious but if you think Clint’s 3/60M deal is tough how you gonna get them excited about Rudy’s deal?

If he came with Collins and Hunter, I think we would take him.

That’s the problem I think it’s one of those or the other unless we send Bogey with Rudy and get Capela. I think it’s one of these:

Hunter/Capela/16

Collins/Capela/16

Hunter/Collins/Capela (we include Bogey)

Even LaVert fits much better than Conley next to Garland... especially if they want to empower Garland. I really don't get it.

If the Jazz aren’t willing to do Capela/JC/Atlanta pick this year then they won’t be trading Rudy… Capela/Hunter/ Pick is another doable construction.

Hunter/JC/16+ And making Atlanta figure out Capela is not happening. Deals have to work for both sides.

Caris is a ball stopper but you are correct. This is also the team that made Mobley/Allen/Lauri work though… so maybe they go with only 7 footers and shortys.

Exactly. Only way we get all three is if we include Bogey. I think the middle ground is Capela/16 plus our choice of Hunter or Collins.

And even then you are taking back Capela deal too. I think JC is more likely to be moved than Hunter. They have like the most unreliable players health wise… JC, Hunter, Bogdon, Okongwu… have all had their fair share of issues. Hunter and Bogeys issues are fairly concerning imo… they seem like things they will deal with forever. Ironically Trae and his junior high physique have been more durable.

Just look at what freaking Vucevic or Sabonis got in a trade. If you think Gobert should fetch less then I don't really want to talk about basketball with you. We should treat Gobert with the respect he deserves and not with the urgency CAA wants to get rid off him. If someone wants him they should know who they are trading for - 3 time NBA all star, 4 time All NBA, 3 time DPOY, 6 time first team All D, the best player on a perennial playoff team. And it's not like those happened some distant time back in the past...like 5-10 years ago. This is still the same player! PUT SOME RESPECT ON THAT MAN's NAME and stop with the insulting offers.

I agree. Like HH was talking about, Atlanta has had some inconsistency with injuries. Rudy would seem to provide everything they lack (defense) and consistency at C.

I don't really want Capela. I think Charlotte might. Or maybe even Chicago. Who knows.

But like you're saying, we should be asking for a good bit.

Seriously....the Jazz need to show some backbone in negotiations. We always send out premium value for trades, we give the most money in extensions, we give the most to FA's....If Danny has any worth to his franchise he won't just take the first deal available because we have to. Rudy Gobert will take a team from 40 to 55 wins. That's the drop-off we're expecting by losing him. He's a multi all NBA player and future HOF in his prime. I understand we won't be able to return 100% value, but that doesn't mean we must take back 50%.

Whoever we ended up trading....Gobert, Conley, Bogey, Mitchell....the FO needs to show some worth and get real value back.
