Preseason Game #2: OKC at UTAH

I know it's just pre-season, but DAMN, can you imagine if Kanter continues to play with this kind of energy. He's a bigger, taller version of the Millsap we saw in Paul's early years...just relentless effort.

And if Gordon could just start hitting shots... he already looks pretty good in the up-tempo game. I really like the speed of Hayward, Kanter and Burks.

I can't argue with this. Favors just needs to become an adequate offensive player with a couple of weapons. FT shooting needs to improve or he won't be able to close games as the other team can just "Hack-A-Shaq" him. I'd be thrilled with 12-15 points, 10 rebounds and elite defense.

I think Favors is a 16/10 guy with 36 minutes. I think Kanter is a 14/12 guy with the same minutes.

Future.

Favors is already a 60%+ free throw shooter. That's good enough to not be a liability down the stretch in close games.

Unless the Jazz get a point guard who can run a pick and roll, Enes is probably going to score more than Favors given equal minutes. Better touch, better strength, better footwork.

I agree, I'm just trying to fit in.

I'm definitely excited about what I've seen from Kanter. And you're right about Hayward. He just has to make shots. That's all there is to it.

We need to run Favors in the pick and roll more. He's not primarily a post up player and we need to stop forcing him to be. Watch his highlights and tell me how many of them come from him cutting to the basket vs posting up. I really feel the coaching staff misuses him a great deal on offense.

I was thinking the same thing. I see him running pick and roll and the guards didnt hit him. This could change as players get use to playing with each other. I really like the idea of him playing the high pick with kanter or Al on the low block.

My observations:
- Burks' shot is still very ugly
- Marv looks like the best player on the team, calm, smooth and fluent
- Foye is lost so far
- Favors - no show
- Al looks like he is even fatter than last year
- Does Quinn have chances to make the team?

I don't think Favors has any innate offensive ability. If the Jazz don't find a way to take advantage of his athleticism (PnR/transition), they're blowing it. Him and Kanter could be a wholly devastating combo.

You know, provided Favors wakes up from his nap.

Kanter on the other hand had a disappointing season.

All things considered, he didn't at all. Dropped out of nowhere and with no recent basketball experience as the youngest player in the NBA and buried on the depth chart where he forced KOC to trade Memo and Corbin to give him minutes (even if he deserved more a lot of the time).
