The problem is, no country cares about human rights. This isn't even about selling arms to Saudis(our government, too). Why do Canada and US, democratic countries with decent internal human rights records, even have diplomatic relations with non-democratic countries who habitually violate human rights? It's the pinnacle of hypocrisy. Preaching democracy and rights, but then you're buddy-buddy with world's worst offenders.

Personally I wish this had not happened. I do not feel there is any "good" option in Syria. Every path has huge pitfalls and drawbacks.

I'd rather focus our resources and time on our allies and our homeland. If Russia wants Syria they can have it.
 
Im ok with the airstrike. I think the target was appropriate.

I just have to laugh at Trump who blasted Obama about airstrikes on several occasions. His tweets come back to haunt him weekly.

Syria is an extremely complex situation-- but if regime change is our goal, we already have evidence from three previous involvements in terms of what the outcomes were.

All I'm saying is that if someone is using chemical weapons on people then I would hope someone else might provide some consequences.

Nah, just never had an interest in what goes on there, I know the situation's bad but I didn't know the exact details. And I suspect most people don't neither. Here in NZ I meet lots of people daily at my shop/nursery and I'll bet you 90% of people who come through our shops to buy plants have absolutely no idea what goes on there. So I guess they're all dumb too? These are moms, and grandmas and typical family folks who are just busy making a living and with sorting out kids & family stuff, making plans to decorate their gardens and just trying to live a peaceful life. We don't get a lot of younger people here, but I'd be surprised if all of them know exactly what goes on there.


The thing that made me stood up and be more interested in this were Trump's airstrikes yesterday as it was such a big news here, and made me curious to educate myself a bit more about the complex issues that goes on there. So the question was genuine, but if your sole reason here is to call people names, and don't realize that most people were just not inerested in it or too busy to try to understand the complexity of what goes on there then I guess you're just as ignorant as I was.

Like I said in my first post. I don't like that we did this attack. But I think someone needed to do something to try to deter this type of thing from continuing.

They hold an uncontested election every few years. They don't actually count the votes. They just make an announcement about the glorious leader's 99.8% victory.
 
One thing that still confuses me is the situation with all the shias and sunis and kurds (spelling?).


No idea what are the differences between them and what they're all fighting for. Would appreciate if somone could explain.
