What's new

President Assad gasses and Donald fiddles

One thing that still confuses me is the situation with all the shias and sunis and kurds (spelling?).

No idea what are the differences between them and what they're all fighting for. Would appreciate if somone could explain.
They are Islamic people who believe in different variations of Islam so they kill each other cuz God

I don't really know, but I imagine the invisible sky daddy told some of them a certain thing they had to wear or a certain thing they had to eat or not eat or a certain time to eat or not eat said stuff or certain directions to face when they pray and/or how many times and what times they need to pray or what kind of sex is naughty or what kind of family structure is ideal, and the other guys invisible sky daddy said something 0.001% different than that which means that the real invisible sky daddy is going to send the people who believe in the fake invisible sky daddy to live with their nasty perv invisible underground uncle FOREVERRRRRRRRR!

Fixed.
Most of us don't want to spend our tax dollars on this. I don't recall ever having a say in where my tax dollars go or how much I get taxed though.

I think duped is the wrong word.

lol you sound like an extreme right winger now!
a libertarian who is now claiming taxation is theft!

basically different offpsirngs of islam.

like evangelicals vs Catholics. or Ashkenazi jews vs Sephardi jews.

they have generally same religion, but differ on some things culturally religiously etc. but only difference between different jewsih and chrsitian nominations is the islamist to some degree want to make every other Muslim do it their way!

kurds(kurds are actually all suni) are more laid back more of a live and let live mentality compared to those others. wonderful people, i was biased against them until i got to know a few personally we have a lot of them in netherlands. i used to just call em turks, after all most in Netherlands have turkish papsort but that offended them and they always corrected me they are kurds, and then one educated me on it, wonderfull people those kurds, because they are more accepting of different folks.

there are actually 5 different versions of Islam.

read some here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Islamic_schools_and_branches#Overview

I can always count on you to hit me with something I haven't heard before. LOL. I'll look into that notion once I get some time.

Meanwhile, have you ever read The Israel Lobby by Mearsheimer? If not, it is an essential read for those interested in understanding more about US foreign policy.

https://www.amazon.com/Israel-Lobby-U-S-Foreign-Policy/dp/0374531501

I have not read that book. I found this paper that was apperently the precursor to the book. https://www.google.com/url?sa=t&source=web&rct=j&url=https://mearsheimer.uchicago.edu/pdfs/IsraelLobby.pdf&ved=0ahUKEwjjxafvspHTAhVrqVQKHXfUCXkQFgiCATAQ&usg=AFQjCNFlVQO8EGLPxZsbik8QZaH4vQ15Cw&sig2=QXFdsysdP8Aph5R0gYru3g

I think that they overstate their case, not by a ton but they do. I don't think lobbyists shape the narative that much. I think that a powerful lobby is created by the narative. In the decades following WWII the Holocaust and the nation that rose from the ashes of it became a central part of the American narative. The Liberation of German concentration camps became something Americans were intensely proud of as a nation. There is no similar story for Arabs and certainly not palestinians. The most important part of the American narative in which muslim Arabs play a central role is now 9/11. Before 2001 if you asked an American what the Quran was he was likely to pull the Nokia out of his pocket and say"****. These don't have Google yet. You ever play snake?". Yes there is an Israel Lobby and yes it is powerful but the lobby is a result of the American National story, they did not create it. You could say a similar thing about the NRA.

Furter Israel is not the only country, though it may be to the greatest degree, with which our policy is driven by theirs. the US position on the Kurds in Turkey. For a long time the Irish in the UK. The authors also fail to recognize the real worries, wether justified or not, of pan arabism and earlier Soviet expansion. He downplays the strategic role of Israel to US interests in the middle east likely because he doesn't view those interests as being the same inyerests that our leadership does.

That being said what he says is still valid. I just think that he is mistaken to think that the US would have a much different policy toward Israel if it weren't for the activity of the pro Israel lobby.

Me getting taxed and not having a say where it goes is not a left or right thing.
